As if finding an Arwing in Ocarina of Time wasn't enough, it appears that the crazy ROM hackers have done it again. This time, they've actually created something far more useful, and far more cool. Ever dream of joining the "dark side" of Hyrule? Perhaps playing on the opposite team? Dream no more. Thanks to some newly discovered codes, you can play as Dark Link in Ocarina of Time. See for yourself.

I was first alerted to this break through about two weeks ago, and I was a bit doubtful of such a discovery. I could see the Arwing and other actor codes as being plausible, but actually playing as another character seemed far fetched. At first, I thought it was merely a texture/coloring trick like the alternate tunic colors. But alas, after seeing this in action and seeing the screens, I'm a believer.

You don't know the power of the Dark Side.

As before, you need Game Shark or an emulator with Game Shark code input in order to access this feature. Sadly, though, there is a price for joining the Dark Side of the "Triforce". Your powers (as of this writing) are limited to the Temple of Time, and other small arenas. That is, you can't play as Dark Link the entire game, so don't expect my next speed run to be of the shadow villain.

Still, this serves as probably the coolest discovery in Ocarina of Time I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot, such as beating the Shadow Temple as Young Link, beating Ocarina of Time without having to go back in time, spin attacking over gaps, double bomb damage boosting over gaps, skipping Ganon's Castle's "trials", flying Link, and Young Link meeting Sheik. Seriously, it is amazing that in the last year, 90% of the most amazing tricks have been discovered or made public. If you are awaiting Twilight Princess and hoping it will approach Ocarina of Time levels - please note the year is 2006, the year of Twilight Princess, and Ocarina of Time is STILL GOING STRONG with communities still behind it like it came out yesterday.

Play as Kafei, or Pikachu! (j/k)
Oh yeah, as an added bonus, you can also play as Kafei in Majora's Mask. Crazy, huh? I mean you can play as Kafei beyond the Sakon hideout sub-quest event. See the above image for proof. Anyway, everytime I go away from this game, it seems some new breakthrough is discovered. Thanks to dedicated fans who continue to expand Ocarina of Time's legacy well beyond the creator's intent.
