Luigi's Mansion 2 was announced today! (This trailer looks great in 3D, download it if you have a 3DS.) Ghosts Surround the Lean, Green Second String in 3D
Luigi™ is back on a mission to remove a bunch of stubborn ghosts from some spooky mansions. Armed with his trusty Poltergust ghost-sucking vacuum cleaner, Mario's brother takes center stage to capture these pesky phantoms.
FEATURES:
- Shining a light on the ghosts is no longer enough to stun them into immobility. Players need to activate a strobe function and release it to stun the ghosts before sucking them up with the Poltergust.
- Different types of ghosts haunt the different mansions. Luigi must figure out how to defeat each one of them and find hidden secrets to unlock new areas and treasure chests. These new elements add more variety and introduce new puzzle-solving mechanics.
- Players can use the Poltergust to help Luigi to remove wallpaper to reveal hidden areas, clean up piles of treasure-hiding leaves or suck up stacks of coins and bills. But in reality, the nervous and reluctant Luigi just wants to get as far away from these ghosts as possible.
- The 3D visuals bring the mansions, ghosts and surroundings to life. Players experience all the haunting chills and fun the game has to offer.
- This game is the first follow-up to the 2001 Nintendo GameCube™ launch title Luigi's Mansion™. I'm super excited for this. The first game was flawed, but it had a ton of interesting and fun gameplay ideas and I can't wait to see how good the sequel will be with these problems fixed. Unfortunately, it's not getting released until 2012, but it should be great. Here's the E3 demo!

I have to admit, I did give a little grin when I saw this revealed at the conference. I hope they can deliver a really full experience with this sequel. The original was good, but lacking in more content. They went with the simple answer of "more mansions", so lets hope they can just keep things fresh between haunted houses.

I didn't play the original, but I've been thinking about picking up a copy, primarily because it's feature character is Luigi and the main villain is King Boo (who also happens to be one of my favorites on the latest Mario Kart games). As much as Bowser and Mario are cool (and never fail to serve as a great hero/villain combo time after time), variety is nice once in a while. BTW, I like how they made King Boo look in the side games better. Yeah, I know he's a villain, but he looks really evil in that promotional poster the starter of this thread put in their first post. I think if I was Luigi there I'd have to change my pants every time King Boo stared down at me like that.

That guy REALLY needs to learn how to follow directions.
The game looks great, maybe better than it did at E3?

Sure hope they haven't shown all the best bits of scene interaction the game has to offer. Loads of fun to be had there. I'm growing more fond of the potential for this sequel as time passes.

I guess me purchasing Luigi's Mansion will no longer be optional. I need to get it! And Eternal Darkness.

New information from E3! First off, we have a subtitle: Dark Moon, which unfortunately sounds more like an Arcade Fire song than a video game. Here's a trailer that was shown at the 3DS conference last night: Finally, we have some new art and screenshots: More screenshots can be found here. Game still looks really great. :D Right now it's labeled for "Holiday 2012," but I imagine it'll get a Halloween release.

I am increasingly warming to this title, it just needs to deliver and I am confident the lessons with regards to longevity and variety in the original will be addressed. Heck, there's what looks like a giant spider boss so that's a positive.
The spook dog is adorable, as is Luigi when he's in that lift at the end... "Hello?" Someone give him a hug and tell him it'll be alright!

Depends what kind of delay it is. If it's a delay for the sake of having something to open the year with, that's awful. If it's a delay that will deliver more/better content in the long run, let's go with it. I'm not in a mad, slavering rush to get this game so...

My guess would be either a rocky development due to outsourcing it; or they just want to make sure it's extra good--or it's actually ready to come out this year and they're just sitting on it to help bolster Wii U's lackluster launch lineup?

I have to think that if any 3DS game would be delayed into 2013 to help Wii U, it'd be NSMB 2, which could bite into the sales of its only surefire hit. If Luigi's being delayed for scheduling reasons, it's more likely that it's being used to boost 3DS's 1H 2013.
However, this is the biggest project Next Level and Nintendo have ever worked on together, so I feel like the delay is sadly necessary.

UPDATE: US release delayed until Q1 2013, so it could have been much worse. Game should be in US hands by end of March, hopefully in European ones in a similar time.

Game's out next week. March 24 in North America, March 28 in Europe. My first 3DS purchase since Kid Icarus (twelve months ago...yeah). Looking forward to it!

You've seriously underutilized the 3DS, I'm in the midst of Fire Emblem: Awakening, which is an amazing game--I never really cared for strategy RPGs but this one has me hooked!
I can't wait for Dark Moon, though, I loved the original Luigi's Mansion and I'm really glad I got an XL to experience Dark Moon.
