The GOP Race has come down to a dead-heat between two mentally ill people and the guy that lost last time.
I love how elections in America pretty much start as soon as the last one is over. This cycle has been about as focused on the Republican candidates as ever. I mean you've got an incumbent President whose been treated with more disrespect by his opposition than any president since old Abe Lincoln and honestly, the most backward selection of Republican candidates ever. When the
Mormon appears to be the sanest one, something is seriously wrong.
I mean I'm not saying Obama is perfect, he's been horribly limp-wristed as of late. I mean as nice as it would be for Americans to cast aside their differences and reach across the perverbial aisle, it seems that the craziest side of each faction has just grown louder and more militant, and I think it's very fair to say that the far right side has been the loudest, craziest and most militant of them all.
I mean even when Bush was bankrupting us with a campaign against "terror" and allowing the wealthiest corporations to keep their vast profits earned from shipping jobs overseas and taking advantage of non-existant financial and environmental oversight, I don't recall any large group of people demanding we see his birth certificate, or say that "second-amendment remidies" need to be implemented.
Honestly, if Obama weren't a black man, he wouldn't have 80% of the flack he's been getting, sure his policy decisions would be argued, but I doubt Joe Wilson would have stood up during the State of the Union and shouted "YOU LIE!" and actually given a free pass.
Anyway, so you've got Bachmann who's suggested McCarthy style witch hunts in congress to ween out anti-American activities, suggested The Lion King is a prime example of gay proganda, and says that if you elect her, gas will be $2 a gallon, which indicates she knows nothing about anything. Yeah, $2 a gallon gas sounds great, but as it stands our fuel prices are HEAVILY subsidized by the government, and she cries for a lack of government in the free-market. So how does she propose we get gas down to $2 a gallon without additional subsidies? It's not that the oil companies are heavily taxed and need to make up for lost profits by jacking up gas prices.
Anyway, why aren't things going so well now? Maybe it's because Americans voted in a group of people they didn't full understand just because they were dissatisfied with the current state of affairs, only to end up with a split legislature that can't get anything done due to opposition.
We're dealing with a party that held the debt-ceiling hostage as a scape goat to do away with social programs and regulations. We're dealing with a party that blames government unions for all our problems, we're dealing with a party that thinks taxes aren't necessary to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure and miserable education system. What's the answer? Torte reform? Privatizing social services like the fire department? Teaching creationism in public schools?
Yeah, that'll really help America.
But how do you feel? Do you think the current crop of Presidential Candidates will restore America to glory?
