Free on the 3DS eShop, as announced. It's been updated with levels from old 2D Zelda games as well! I'm not sure about the online status, but I wouldn't expect it. Hopefully I'll be able to find someone to play it with me.EDIT: A single-player mode was just confirmed! :D EDIT 2:

Thanks for uploading that hupla, looks great. I wonder if this subseries will see a revival soon because of this?

EDIT: A single-player mode was just confirmed! :D At last! All past attempts at multiplaying this game have been crushed. Problem solved, and so much more to look forward to. Those retro graphics are terrific. EA's verdict:

OH IMMENSE JOY AND HAPPINESS.
It WAS fun to play with 2 people, but I don't even know anyone irl who has a 3DS so that future wasn't looking too bright.
I'm one of those people who really enjoy FSA (playing by myself), so I'll definitely enjoy it too -- it's not super easy, and you get to play through everything 3 times (there's 3 different colors of keys). After all that you have to do a mashup of 16+ courses after which you will finally get to do Vaati's stages. This used to be a problem battery-wise for 2 GBA's. If you ever get there, be sure to operate at full battery power since there's no saving in between (I doubt they would change that part).
Not to worry though, this game is great, challenging, and the randomly generated puzzles/levels are cool.

My wife and I had a good laugh after learning of this release. Inspired by Rew's run last year, I'm currently in the midst of a marathon through the series (currently on OOT MQ.) We just completed Four Swords 100% on Labor Day (with two GBA's and 2 game paks.) And now--- NOW--- this with more levels, lol. It's ok, though. I don't yet own a 3DS and still saved myself cash by purchasing a used extra GBA (had one, already) and 2 used copies of Four Swords. Fun game, though, and my wife , who is NOT a gamer, impressed me by sticking with it all the way with me. She impressed twofold by not only being willing to do so, but successfully accomplishing it. Took us over a month in duration. And I had assumed, up until now, that if not for her being willing to play, I would never get the chance to play Four Swords in my entire life.

For the record, Four Swords AE is a DSiWare game, not a 3DS eShop game. So it should be available on both systems.

Looks like it's slipped out a little early in Europe. No complaints there. Downloading for my 3DS and DSi now. Because I'm greedy. And it's free. Impressions later.

Sweet! Which reminds me, I'm behind on my Zelda series run. NSMBWii has been taking up all my gaming attention. But I'm done with that now

Lost most of yesterday and today to this game. Surprisingly addictive stuff. Can't imagine how much more fun it would be with a second player. (Although I will find out with the assistance of my DSi and Amy sometime soon.)
The gameplay is as you'd expect if you'd played FSA on the Cube. I've blasted through the main storyline once already, but am merrily replaying as the stages are randomly generated. The retro stages are a great little extra, with the classic tunes and familiar layouts raising a huge smile.
The switching between green Link and pink Link (yea, I went for that) is a little fiddly in the heat of boss battles, but that aside: Best freebie ever.

Four Sword is (still) good. Didn't remember there being that much to the Chambers of Insight. Cool though. Better than lots of handholding/eplanations during the actual game.
I like the single player, less tedious for sure. I always had problems with those enemies you have to pull from both sides.
But can you get those medal for getting the most rupees when playing single player? If I remember correctly getting 10 of those allowed you to do the catch 10 items in the bug-catching net in the ALttP counterpart, which awarded you with the Hurricane Spin if you completed that. I see they left the skill in there (and the Sword Beam one, I think from beating Vaati the first time).

No replies yet?
Well I played the Realm of Memories and it was lots of fun! Hyrule Castle exterior, interior, and Lost Woods. Are these the same always? Or do they also change? I guess the other two are LoZ and LA? I really wonder if they are different a bit every time too.

From what I've heard, the layouts in Realm of Memories and Hero's Trial are constant (i.e. never randomize). Only the original four areas of Four Swords (Sea of Trees, Talus Cave, Death Mountain, Vaati's Palace) randomize their layouts.

It's a fun freebie. I can imagine that collecting endless streams of rupees would be more fun with somebody to compete for them with, but I'm enjoying it.
I played through two stages tonight, and I'm noticing that a lot of level ideas and item/enemy designs resemble those of The Minish Cap. I'm wondering if those were in the original game or not.

I'm noticing that a lot of level ideas and item/enemy designs resemble those of The Minish Cap. I'm wondering if those were in the original game or not. Yes. They didn't change much, really, besides the obvious Realm of Memories and Hero's Trial. I remember some room setups from the original game, the style is exactly the same and yes, FS actually introduced some new enemies and the graphics were used in TMC to a big degree. Did see some shenanigans I don't remember from the original game but then there were probably quite a lot of room permutations programmed into it. I LOVE the Realm of Memories - it's basically like walking around in LoZ, ALttP or LA! And the rupees and such even look the same (like in LA). I haven't unlocked the Hero's Trial yet. I still need to find a fellow 3DS owner at some point to get me some medallions... what do they unlock? Hurricane Spin? And about the rupee collecting: at least you see your grand total on your save file now, that's cool! 99,999 shouldn't take too long, if you do Vaati's Palace on Hero level.
