So I finally saw the trailer for The Hobbit. I didn't like it. But the movie could still be cool.

I am really looking forward to this year in terms of movie releases. I think that The Hobbit will be really good, Peter Jackson has such a passion for storytelling and getting things accurate that I think he will do fine. I only have two worries about it. That it will be too dark and gritty like TLotR, as the Hobbit is definitely more light hearted and kid friendly, and also they don't overplay Gollums role. Both the ring and gollum play very small parts in the book, and from what I remember it was never mentioned that the ring is the "one ring" and causes evil in the person.

Other movies I am really looking forward to is The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers. I still really don't think the Avengers is going to be the most amazing thing ever, but I am sure it will be a good popcorn entertaining film.

I say it's still way too early to judge the Hobbit by its trailer, especially since it won't even be out until December. But mostly, because trailers can be really misleading (usually on purpose). Of course they're going to play the trailer up to look like LotR, because that's what's going to draw in the general public.

Honda's men are no longer Street Fighters. They see this as a Mortal Kombat, and they have the Killer Instinct. If you do not help your friends, this may be their Final Fight. . . Clayfighter.

I actually liked the trailer.  What bugged me was finding out Orlando Bloom and Elijah Wood were in the movie.

Pretty much this. I agree with Loki that the trailer is made to look more like LOTR than the movie itself will probably be, but I could also see the studio going for a more LotR-esque feel for the movie (considering they also have to sell Part 2), which worries me.

Am I the only one that likes the fact that the style is the same as in the LOTR movies? I'm super pro for movies that aim for consistency.

It's the same storyline ( same dimension ) so it needs the same style, especially if you're going to use characters that were in the LOTR series.

But it's not the same story at all. The darkness and serious nature of Lord of the Rings is all but nonexistent in The Hobbit, and the story itself is completely unsuited to having that tone forced upon it. That they take place in the same fictional universe is irrelevant: does every story that takes place on Earth have the same tone?

Eh, The Hobbit had a somewhat dark tone.  We don't get all of that directly in the book, because the story centers around Bilbo and he tries to avoid as much of the trouble as he can, but it's there.

It seemed to me that they were embarking on a dangerous adventure? I haven't read the book but from what I saw they needed a lot of men for it.

Im guessing you omitted the entire last third of the book then? Because for a "childrens" novel its got some dark themes. You cant really expect them to not make it dark, especially since Jackson is taking liberties and making two movies.

Well. I don't know how to say this.

It appears I've been duped.

...The actual trailer is quite good!

Still no snow here in tiny Holland. Last year, it snowed like crazy around this time a year, now nothing. Though, it's getting colder and colder.

I don't know what forecast you're looking at, Mattie, but it's supposed to be in the 60s (lows in the 40s) here in Columbia next week--and most of this week, now that I'm looking at it.

This has been quite a warm winter so far.

Our weather here in Missouri has been bi-polar to say the least. Early last week it was in the 50s, then the 10s, then snowed, then hopped back up to the 30s, then yesterday it 65, and today its 36. Seriously I have no idea what to think with this weather.
