Gary Ross's Hunger Games > Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games
Not so fast, my friend. But yeah, the movie version is awesome. I would put it at an almost equal level with the book. (It's far closer than, say, Half-Blood Prince and both Deathly Hallows films to their book counterparts.) I still can't get over Jennifer Lawrence's performance--she was such a sublimely amazing Katniss. Also: "THAT IS MAHOGANY!" Best line in the movie.  |

Have you seen Winter's Bone? One of my favorite leading performances of the last few years. |

Meh, although the concept is cool, the execution was too mild for my taste ( seriously, I expected saw-like shit ). Most of the tributes were unbelieveable apart from Katniss and Peeta. I don't know if it's because I already saw Battle Royale, but I thought that one was better in terms of execution, since they're both pretty much about the same thing. |

I have yet to see Winter's Bone or Battle Royale. I plan to see both at some point, though.
@Witless: I pretty much knew they'd tone down a lot of the gore in the book. I confess I really wasn't a fan of the shaky-cam during action scenes, though. That's probably my biggest complaint.

Winter's Bone is on Netflix!
Yeah, Hunger Games doesn't work very well as an action movie, unfortunately, but as a drama and an adaptation, it's excellent.
