SCEA President Jack Tretton has leapt to the defense of everyone's favourite fanboy-flamebait by saying that
"We didn't get into PS3 for the first six months of 2007 -- we're into this for the next 10 years and beyond ... A million units one way or another at this point isn't going to worry us."

We've heard the ten year thing before, and it looks as though Sony are happy to ignore the sales figures which suggest their 4-D system of wonder could be doing better. But is it still safe to stand by such a claim? Without a successful system base in the early part of the system's life cycle, developers will be taking their skills elsewhere, and we've seen that already with DMC4 and the like. Reading through the article, developers may well be thinking that already...

"When people talk about the PS3 on chat forums, they say it's like going to a very expensive restaurant and not getting anything to eat." - Kyoshi Shin, Japan's International Game Developers' Association.

What do we all think of this claim? Is it just wishful thinking and the PS4 will be out around the same time Wii v2.0 and the XBox720 start kicking ass (almost certainly five years)? Tretton is known for making statements which come back to bite him on the arse...

I think it's about time someone decided 5 years was too short of a life span for consoles. I mean how much more powerful do we really need to make a system. I think we can survive quite a while with the systems we have now. I hate having to buy the biggest and the best every 5 years. Plus saying the ps3 is going to last 10 years makes the investment less sucky. However I don't really believe their statement since they tend to overhype their system a lot.

The only system that could really use an upgrade is the Wii.
