funner? I find reading your threads and then beating myself with a large sausage fun. Sonic doesn't quite beat that...
Seriously though, 2-D Sonic was fine (not awesome, I still choose Mario over Sonic), but since he went 3-D he's sucked major balls. Mario pulled it off with style. True style. Just look at Sonic's latest adventure and weep.
Having said that though, Sonic for Wii looks pretty good, here's hoping they don't mess that up.

To part A, part B or part C? Or perhaps a mixture...
I've got lost in the multitude of animals Sonic games now through at us. I think Sonic for Wii (the real title is too damn long) might get it right just by keeping the key ingredients of Sonic and speed, and a more linear path.

Of the games, as his favorite character is not Sonic but... Tails. I myself have never found joy in Sonic. I'm sorry. But please elaborate, people who do, why it is that you love Sonic (games) so much? I do honestly want to know I will not completely put it down unless I know *what* exactly I am putting down Yes, to those who wonder: I *have* a sense of honour & pride.

Sonic was my hero when I was little. I always wanted to be the fastest runner in my class because I thought sonic was cool so I wanted to be like him haha. Plus I didn't have a Super Nintendo growing up. I had a genesis. So I grew up off of sonic games. I think they could be so much better if they stayed focused on the speed. Stop slowing things down so we can play as other characters. I don't want to be knuckles. At least not when he is doing his bull**** treasure hunting levels. Those levels sucked ***. And tails used to be cool until they turned him into a machine guy and the only time you get to control him is when he is in some kind of robot. Screw that. I don't want new characters. I want Sonic. I want speed. I want to be super sonic in the middle of any level like back in the day. And I want them to give up this eggman **** and go back to calling him Dr. Robotnik. Sega has made bad move after bad move with the sonic series and it's about time they went back to their roots. speed - hot, nasty bad-*** speed. That's what I am hopeing wildfire will be all about. It's just sonic. **** tails. **** knuckles. **** shadow and **** Amy and every other lame *** worthless character. Just give me a game with sonic and only sonic and ill be happy.

Of the 3D Sonics, the only one that I really liked was Sonic Adventure 2. The first one was alright, but not that good, but Heroes and Shadow I could barely stand to play. The 2D Sonics were pretty good, though. I own 3, Sonic and Knuckles, and Sonic 3D Blast (which was actually just isometric 2D), and I've played a few of the others. Sonic and the Secret Rings looks like it's heading in the right direction, so I'll at least give it a rent if possible.

Sonic was a series I used to really like. The 2D games were enjoyable, and SA2B was good too.
But now, he's gone down hill... big time. It's sad to say, but it's true.
I've played Sonic Rush once, pretty good. The one for the 360 apparently sucked... hard. But I wouldn't know, I hardly know anything about it, except the voices are bad. xD
Now Sonic Heroes, that sucked. -_-

I've been dissapointed in every Sonic since SA1 &2, which were my favorite all-time Sonic Games. I was hoping the new version for the Ps3/360 would be good.......but it looks like the 360 version blew. Despite the reviews I'm going to check out the PS3 version. As for Sonic and the Secret Rings, I'm not going to get it. From what I've seen in game, all it looks like is a linear piece of garbage: http://media.wii.ign.com/media/800/800277/vids_1.htmlsee for yourself. I'm not at all pleased with the direction they took with it, and there seems to be no variety of gameplay. So far the only one that has a chance to get it right is the PS3 version........but like I said.....based on it's 360 counterpart I wouldn't hold my breath. Hopefully the the next version can be the winner we've all been looking for.

Couldn't it be argued that the 2-D Sonics were "linear pieces of garbage"? From what I've seen of Sonic and the Secret Rings so far, each level does seem to follow a set path, but there are several possible routes through each as well, and there are sure to be different challenges along the way. Opening Sonic up to a larger 3-D plane, going in so many different directions clearly hasn't worked for him. Now they're trying a combination of the two, the 3-D world, but with the semi-set routes from the 2-D days, which IMO if done properly could really pay off.

The 2-D Sonics were just that- 2-Dimensional. Those games weren't in a 3-D landscape, and hence were linearized. 3-D gaming (imo at least) is all about options and freedom of movement. this game has stinker written all over it. The extent of the user's interaction seems to be moving right and left, and pressing "A". Sure, that wouldn't be a bad thing in the days of the Genesis, but we're not living in the stone age anymore. And you know what bothers me the most? I STILL don't see the sense of speed people are raving about in this game.
As for the 3-d games sucking. They all haven't. The Sonic adventure series was praised for being among the best games of the Dreamcast Library, as well as the best Sonic games. Although they were the only games that were good, they showed there were possibilities in the open, 3-d world. I'm not denying that the Wii could possibly host a good Sonic game, but SatSR just doesn't seem to be one of them. Despite the reviews, I'll take the 360/Ps3 version anyday.

The extent of the user's interaction seems to be moving right and left, and pressing "A". Just because they've reduced the buttons doesn't make it less fun. There have been lots of killer games that only require players to press left right and A. What it means is that the camera angels are probably going to be dead on because they probably have been pre programmed to look the best. That solves the biggest issue with sonic games right there. It also means the game is going to be fast as hell because sonic automatically runs. Its going to be all about reflexes and timing. And face it. Any new direction with sonic titles is a good thing. Because right now the series is in dire need of a change of pace.
