I agree that I like non-linearity, but I don't see it as that much of a problem.  After about the third dungeon, you could go to almost anywhere in the game.  There are only two other areas, besides the dungeons, that you can't or aren't meant to get to yet.

Also, your mentions of Thieve's Town reminded me of when I forgot to get the Titan's Mitt and just went through the game like normal, trying to figure how to save the other dwarf and how to get to Misery Mire.  I also thought I had to taken the Maiden out of the dungeon, and lost her, just like the first time I played OoT and thought I had to take Ruto out of Jabu-Jabu's Belly. >.<

Oh but you could even get deep into the Mountains before you even have the hookshot. It's called Dark World cheating. You could get to the Dark World basically everywhere, even in Kakariko Village and basically all the lands around it by use of the portal just one screen up from the middle of Kakariko. There's a way around this through the forest, so you end up on the other side of the fence - you normally have need of the Titan's Mitt for that. I'd love to cheat the game like that.
Same for TLOZ and nabbing the power bracelet before I beat any dungeon. The sweetness that is non-linearity, I swear by it.

Lol! I had the same thing with Ruto. I was *so* pleased with myself that I had managed to get her out. That's what she was so annoyingly whining about for god's sake! So I thought, the little lady will get what the little lady wants! But noooooo, that didn't play, so I had to go and find her all over again *sigh*. The errors one makes as a game newb... It's quite shameless indeed.

Oops, I should have been more specific.  What I meant was that you couldn't get to Snowpeak nor the Hidden Village after the third dungeon in TP, but nearly everywhere else, you are able to get to.  Would you please eleborate?  I've heard of others just getting to the point of getting the Moon Pearl and then somehow getting from Death Mt. to the rest of the Dark World.

lol.  That's one thing that I think both TWW and TP fix: after getting the compass, you're able to find wherever Medli, Makar, or other characters are.

Elaborate you say? oy. It's been a while. I'm currently in doubt whether you did or didn't need the Titan's Mitt to go all the way, since there is a Dark World portal at the easternmost point, at Turtle Rock. You do need earthquake for that too. If you go Dark World there you can basically get everywhere. That much is true. But there was more to it... Damn you memory. Seems I still don't know every game inside out

Praise the Gods for that. Dito for the cannon balls, ToT statue and the like.

Did anyone else find the Compass to be more of a treasure in TP? It strook me that you always got the Map first, and had to wait quite a while to get the Compass... It was certainly much more useful than in the other games that's for sure.

Yeah, I think you need to get the Titan's Mitt to get into that portal, if I'm thinking of the one you're thinking, although at the bottom of the mountian there should be another portal.

I'm not really sure, I don't ussualy care to get either the map or the compass, except for in the Water or Shadow Temples(except I never got the actual map in the Shadow Temple, which made it extremely confusing).  I also ended up passing the compass in Goron Mines, as well as the third Goron elder.  Stupid Beamos...

Certainly, in TP the compass was "treasured". There are some chests out of sight, and you won't get many of these without the compass.
However, the dungeons were pretty linear and intuitive, so I don't remember looking to the maps more than two of three times in the whole game. So its purpose was mainly for chests with rupees and heart pieces.

Yeah, the compass wasn't much use for me, mostly because the majority of the chests just contained rupees.  In fact, there's a part in the Goron Mines you can't even get to the first time you get there(although I thought you would, because I thought you'd get the Clawshot there instead of the Bow).  And all that is there are about 20-50 rupees.

Indeed. I wouldn't have found them all without it, I daresay it. But then with it things were easy enough. Don't know if I liked the fact that you had 2 heartpieces in every dungeon. I'm more of a sidequest kinda guy. Think MM. Even though a lot of them were kinda free (as in easy to get to), it felt much more rewarding, as they could mostly all been missed. You don't "miss" a treasure chest in a dungeon. (Except for that lousy 50 rupee chest in the Goron Mines where you need the Clawshot for. Boy did I feel ripped off...)
