Cartridges = Faster load times... Forgive me for being a true gamer and being glad there is a company looking out for my interests.

Was the "true gamer" comment really necessary?

What makes me any less of a gamer then you?

Considering Microsoft bought their way through the last console war, and have tried the same this gen along with Sony... Yes. Nintendo are the only company who are making a profit on their new generation consoles, so forgive me for my confusion...

We were talking about the developers there, I don'tk now why you brought up MS and Sony as a counter...

Anytime the developers want to bring out their own systems, they're more than welcome to I'm sure. But the console makers do have some element of control in that sense.

True but that doesn't mean they need to make it hard for developers and treat them badly, and not expect some heavy backlash.

Back when Square announced that FF will continue on the Playstation, Nintendo's president (forgot who he was) announced basically "Fine! We don't need Square! We can do just fine on our own" which was true, they did fine enough but they really could have gotten even more and stopped Sony from getting such great titles if only they hadn't been so arrogant. Then again, the reason Square left was because of the cartridges.

Well, maybe the true gamer comment was a bit harsh, but the point stands that the gamers should always come first. Sony have definitely forgotten that this time around.

Sony and MS as a counter- Well, I haven't spied any reporters of developers blowing huge wads of cash on a game so maybe I was scrabbling a bit. Although I heard most games for this generation cost up to $25million to make (Lost Planet= $20 million for example). Ouch...

And Bill... It's not dead yet...

The Gamecube Optical Discs were only slightly more expensive than standard discs, if they were any more expensive at all, the key problem was space, developers often had to compress textures to get games on one disc.

Cartridges = Faster load times... Forgive me for being a true gamer and being glad there is a company looking out for my interests. It was the same for the Cube games. Sure, the medium was smaller content wise, but the load times were far better.

We all know load times weren't the real reason, carts are more secure, yes, but another key reason was that the carts weren't read-only and as a result, Nintendo and SGI used that to build in the MIP Mapping technology(which made Nintendo 64 game texutres look smooth compared to PS1 and Saturn) onto the cart, and at the time, it wasn't possible to do that with a CD.

As for Iwata, I did mean that he was developer friendly, remember his speech "heart of a gamer"?  Just look at the costs to develop for Wii, a cheap developer kit, a potential manner of online gmae distribution for smaller titles and so on..

SNES-Loved this friggin console.  It has some of Nintnedo's most classic games.
NES-It started it all and owned while doing this. Duck Hunt FTW!
N64-I loved the N64 but it didn't have the greatest library. SSB, OoT, SM64, and MK64 being the key games.
GCN-...A mess up with some classics. Not Nintendo's greatest work at all.
I would also say Gamecube is the worst out of the Nintendo consoles.  It did have some KA games though:
Super Smash Bros. Melee
The Wind Waker
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance
Sonic Mega Collection
The Legend of Zelda Collectors Edition
Paper Mario:The Thousand Year Door
These aren't in any order either. I think thats about it though.  I also think that GCN was better than the Xbox which I thought sucked which made it not a total disappointment. PS2 was clearly better though.
Come on Wii. You gotta do good a restore Nintendo to its former glory.

Yes, it was the worst ever. Yes, it was still great.

The Gamecube had some real gems to play. I still go back and play some of them.

My order is (not including Wii)

N64
SNES

Looks like Gamecube may not be dead after all:

Well if it isn't dead in terms of production I'd say it's dead in terms of anyone caring about it.

Plus with the fact that the Wii can play all of the Gamecube Games... I don't think Gamecube will be on everyone's list... well... if you can FIND a Wii.

To me, the Gamecube was more of a "rebuilding" and "damage control" for Nintendo and made the cube to seem more like "hey, we aren't going to be out of the race like Sega". I never had high hopes for the Cube, nor did the Media. It was all about PS2 and there was no hype or real shortage like the Wii is now. Also, during the N64.... almost all 3rd Parties left Nintendo to go to Sony. What I did see and read was Nintendo rebuilding there relations with the 3rd party companies more then the system itself. I still brought a Cube only because of Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, SSBM, Super Mario Sunshine (cause of Love Nintendo's 1st Party games).

To me, the N64 was the worst Nintendo Console ever... because of how badly Nintendo messed up during the time. The best would be SNES... I would say NES but I loved all the new games that the SNES gave then the NES did... Cube is 3rd oh and yes Virtural Boy Sucks 100% ... I had one XP

With such a bold statement, I would like some decent explanation... I am touchy when it comes to the N64. It invented 3D for Nintendo. Mario. Zelda. Donkey Kong. James Bond. It changed things.
I considered the GC more of failure if you were to compare them...

Agreed. As bad as Bill's Cube bashing was, N64 bashing is even worse IMO. And making a statement like "because of how badly Nintendo messed up during the time." could really do with backing up. It was the biggest leap for several key franchises and Nintendo pulled it off in a big way. Mess up? WTH?

Just consider how Mario 64 showed everyone else how 3D platformers should really be done. How OoT is still regarded as one of the best (if not the best) games of all time. Goldeneye is one of the greatest FPS's of any generation. And I could reel of countless more.

Good luck digging your way out of this one se37...

the gamecube was the worst nintendo console but not the worst console overall, for one thing, it didn't burn carpets, it just burned nintendo's rep which is getting soothed by the wii sales, it's still out of stock in places!
