Okay, so I'm a little TO'd about sony's total removal of ps2 backwards compatibility with the 40gb and the new 80gb ps3 models. If the old 80gb used software emulation, why on earth couldn't they have included that here? Software = costless, for heaven's sake! Or at least put ps2 games on the psn store? This is really annoying. They are really putting no effort into this. You have my sincerest thanks if you can sign this petition and spread it on to everyone you know:

Btw, is this considered advertising? I hope not  : ...

This is one of the things that held me back from buying a PS3 at first. It's ridiculous really.

The older 80's and current 60's have backwards compatibility. I'm sure eBay might have some available, thats if your looking for one. However, I have a 40GB and a PS2 right beside me to play PS2 if needed. Doesn't the b/c kind of.. suck though?

I've only really had one game that didn't work with it so far.

Sony should do a Virtual Console thing for the PS3. I don't believe the Playstation Network sells any PS1 or PS2 games? Think of how much more money they could be making if they made the back game catalog available online.

They sort of do...I wouldn't all it an "extensive" library right now though. Theres a few PS1 games you can get for the PS3 ans PSP, but I theres no PS2 games available. Though I suppose they probably could.

I thought the only games available were either PSP games somehow ported to the PS3 or new PS3 games only released on the Network?

Theres some downloadable PSone, PS3, and PSP import games. Crash Bandicoot is featured quite a bit.
