I honestly have no problem whatsoever with the PS2. I do however have a problem with the PS3. Im actually looking for a cheap PS2 on eBay right now so that I can finally own God of freakin' War.

Whatever it is, it sure beats the Wii's Mii Channel.

Although I guess the chat feature is going to be annoying as hell. Constant text bubbles from 100 people at the same time doesn't look pleasant.

But the rest, and the fact that it looks beautiful is a huge thumbs up to Sony.

More is less.

With Sony everything has to be big 'n beautiful, while no concerns are made as to
1) democratic price
2) durability (PS2 is one of the first consoles to die on you [/fact])
3) decent length & replayability of the games
4) smart stories 'n gameplay

'Nuff said.

So, PS Home is a rip off of Second Life? Not so says Phil Harrison.

"I think you’re way oversimplifying by suggesting Second Life and Home are the same," he cries- obviously trying to get down with the kids by adding "way" before "oversimplifying".

"In Home, you get a character and a 3D world, and that’s where the similarity ends. Second Life does some brilliant things but with Home, we’re providing a service. Therefore, the tone of voice is what will differentiate it – Home is about entertainment, it has a game focus, and it’s about sharing with a like-minded community. We don’t give users the level of influence over the environment, behaviour and object definitions that Second Life does – it’s as secure as any other PS3 game."

That last bit means no giant penises I'd guess. Second Life has an issue or twelve with those. Have to give him points for trying to say it's not a rip-off, but it just reads to me as Second Life with gaming features, and now... Limited creativity with the in-Home citizens.

And I can't help thinking: Isn't Second Life designed for people of many different like-minded communities to come together? PS Home is just pinning down the PS3 lovers that would go on Second Life and saving them the trouble of putting down the game controller and picking up a keyboard...

I think the guy is just defending for defending's sake.  Of course he is gonna say both are different.  And although he says that "In Home, you get a character and a 3D world, and that’s where the similarity ends", he didn't convince me all the rest was so drastically different as he lead the reader to believe.

But then, I'd like to compare the two myself, before I come to any such conclusions.  Second life really does tickle my interest...

Check it out:

Text messaging on consoles is now made ten times easier thanks to Microsoft.

What now Sony?

Gonna rip this off to?

Broken link...

http://uk.gear.ign.com/articles/779/779130p1.html

That be the one. Not sure it's going to be such a criminal act if Sony rip this one off (and if it's that hugely relevant to Home). I'd love to see a "text input device" for the Wii really.

And if we're getting fussy, Microsoft have ripped off the keyboard.

So, what is Home? Providing Sony haven't ripped the footage offline, this is Home.

Anyone who loves their graphics will probably blow their load. Mildly impressive, but still not some killer app which will convince me that I don't need £425 to live next year. Also, why the Hell is the guy walking everywhere? Is that actually forced on you in the "game"?

Unless you have some teleporting ability to go to arcades, bowling alleys and whatnot, yes.

Metal Gear Solid 4, Ratchet n Clank, LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted, etc.. That does not take away that the wii (and maybe also the 360) has/have more good titles at the moment.

I don't think the person who replied right b4 me payed any attention to what point the conversation was at (the comment is completely unrelated). But, inadvertently, he makes a point I wanted to make: the ps3 is not at all lacking in awesome exclusives. MGS4 (reason alone to shell out $400), FFXIII, Littlebigplanet (Reggie himself commented this looks cool), Uncharted (love the movie-esque graphics, humor, and epicness), R&C, gran turismo 5 (simply unbelievable graphics) and then the FPSs like Killzone 2 & resistance (which aren't anything particularly spectacular). Add on top of this blu-ray & dvd upscaling, 40/80 gb hardrive (hear that, nintendo? Gigabytes!), 1080p output, fully-functional linux, a xbox-live-par network, and tons of multimedia & customization options (the photo channel was nintendo's lame and only attempt at this), and you have an awesome system that's worth every penny, and a great compliment to the wii.

Now, back on (recent) subject; about home: I find it ridiculuos that you guys are judging this before it's even out. And comparing it to Miis? HA! The mii channel doesn't even start to compare with home; it's nothing more than a very very basic avatar app. You guys have good reason to be Nintendo fans (I am one too): they make games like no one else; but try not to go over the top with it. Less is more? Comon, srsly. Quality over quantity, yes, but less is usually not more, and nintendo has definitely proven this. Their tactics all too often suck, and their system (the wii) offers so little brainpower & functions/features.

Well, gentleman you will get to see Home in action (or videos of it if you don't have a PS3 like me) sometime in November I believe.

Personally I don't see how this "copies" Nintendo's Mii's. Sure it's an "avatar" system, but remember guys, Nintendo didn't come up with avatars they just decided to utilize them. And the Home avatars are WAY more detailed and have their own realistic appeal. The Mii's are less detailed and are more simple and artistic. So really, are they really copying the Mii's?

Second, how are they copying Xbox Live? To me this was the most absurd bash/argument. PS3 is using the Playstion Network for onlin services, Home is not even an internet Networking program/server or whatever. It is really more of an advanced lobby of some sort. Each user has his own personal room he can customize and make it like his own online lobby. Not mention each game has it's own room for pre-game lobbies. Xbox Live does absolutely nothing like this.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love the Mii's and I like Xbox Live. I don't mean to bash Nintendo or Microsoft I merely meant to point out the falacies in these arguments about Home. I don't think this thread was meant to turn into a console war or a bashing Sony thread. I think it was truely meant to talk about Home. If there is going to be arguments about it, they should at least be somewhat accurate and be fair. I mean come on, even though Sony isn't my favorite and it's obviously not your's, are they that bad? They at least deserve a fair fight.

That is all...

November, huh?

I was wondering when this was going to happen. Not even sure if I'm gonna get it. It'll probably be something I download, play it a few times, and then never set foot in, so to speak, again.

Okay, it just seemed a little murky in your previous post. Sorry if I offended you, I didn't mean to if I did.

Does anyone know if you will be able to customize your character/avatar in Home, or will it be a list of pre-set ones to use?

I would assume you have a PS3. Well I've been working a lot and just got a promotion so I have a little extra cash, and after I work on my car, I was looking into maybe getting one of these.

Would you say it is worth the 300 or 400 dollars?

I'm pretty sure it will be a gift but still, I'd like to know your opinion.
