I agree. Although the companies who make RB2 will make alot more money for releasing new games instead of just DLC. Think of thje profit man.

If you enjoy music games, then yeah. Rock Band is worth a purchase and is definitely best bought on the 360.

Actually, new games come out to be a better deal than buying that many songs as DLC. We'll take Green Day for instance, since it's the newest. New game with 47 tracks for $60. 47 tracks as DLC costs you about $94 (assuming the 160 point/$2 price and no track packs). So the profit is in the DLC. That's like a 50% better profit.

And even if you 15 track packs of 3 songs each, plus two more singles, you're looking at about $79. So yeah. And besides, I'd rather them release a hell of a lot of DLC than flood the stores with too many games and my room with too many discs.

I'm actually getting a 360 in a few months. With some extra money in my account I may get it. But i noticed something. You're sig says ranked 95th in Louisiana. Thats pretty damned impressive. But I'm from LA too. What part are you from, if you don't mind me asking?

Meh. It's actually 95th out of all of the people that signed up at that site that are from Louisiana. So it's like 95th out of 161. lol

Also... Southwestish. More towards the middle.

I'm ranked 300th in the world (Or at least on Xbox) according to several song leaderboards.

The only gripe I have with Rock band is that it's less difficult than Guitar Hero.

Thats cuz all Guitar Hero went for was difficulty for a while. Now it's moving on to popular songs with a few harder lesser heard songs. I think GH is about in it's grave unless itll make a solid game that it can produce DLC for, otherwise there's no point competing with Harmonix's ability to market and deliver quality music for the game through easy access DLC.

Yes, but that's like playing a racing sim on a real track...
It takes away the whole game. Might as well play a real guitar.

Yeah, but wasn't Rockband powered by MTV or something?

In a sense, that is a real guitar. A midi guitar, but still. It's also a great tool for learning how to play a real guitar as far as I can tell. And either way, Rock Band is not real musical instruments regardless. It's a matter of timing to click the buttons. So comparing it to real instruments is still absurd, even with the new pro mode. It mimicks it, sure, but it's still a different ball game.

Yeah, they are. And Guitar Hero is powered by Activision, which as far as I can tell is up there with EA in the "most hated gaming companies" category lately.

Activision has long since surpassed EA in that category. At least EA is making an attempt to establish new IPs.

They're still about even, far as I can tell. Afterall, EA's the one that has that program they're starting to combat people buying used games. Where you have to pay like $10 to get the launch-day DLC and such. Or something to that effect. I personally like the idea, but whatever. Considering it's, ya know, more complicated than what I just said it is.

Yes, Harmonix runs "Rock Central" (They're online servers) and posts DLC every tuesday. MTV provides the tracks and..... idk what else . Then with RBN Harmonix and MTV have jumped far ahead of Guitar Hero by allowing user submitted songs. Which is brilliant might I add.

Activision on the other hand seems to think releasing games with minor tweeks in both graphics and gameplay as well as new setlists instead of settling for one game (should have taken GH:WT or GH5) and setting up frequent DLC uploads, is better for the company and the user... and It's not. (In my eyes Activision targets softcore gamers, family gamers, who will buy the game and play it once or twice a week. Harmonix can be seen as both hard and softcore for it's easy-to-understand gameplay and simple DLC interface. And in this way Harmonix wins. Leaving no real room for error in both income and satisfaction)

Yeah, Activision's pretty stupid. Only recently jumping on the exporting songs bandwagon is hurting them, considering that Rock Band is currently looking at a total of around 1,750 songs available on one disc,* whereas Guitar Hero still mostly requires switching discs for different songs.

Doesn't help that when GH announces their DLC plans, the typical response is "Oh cool, but 75%+ of those are already on Rock Band." About 3 songs a week compared to around 8 songs a week is kind of brutal. There is really no reason to choose GH over Rock Band in my mind. Rock Band also has a vastly wider variety of genres making it a little more accessible to anyone.

I'd also add to "softcore gamers," that it includes people who don't go online to look into things like exporting songs and DLC and whatnot and people who just kind of pick it up as a passing fancy cause they look on the back of the box and go "Ooh, I like that song."

*(Includes Rock Band, Rock Band 2, Green Day: Rock Band, LEGO Rock Band, all DLC, and the Rock Band Network)

That's what I meant by softcore gamers. And that pretty much sums them up. I've actually watched people buy the GH games solely for that reason. Or you're like my sister and every time you play you play the same 3 or 4 songs then stop (and considering she asks to play Rock Band 2 with me and I own about 150+ DLC..... it's pretty pointless)

In case anyone's still interested in Rock Band 3, I figured I'd go ahead and post the track list (so far):

Quote from: RB3 Track list
2000s

    * Combat Baby -- Metric
    * Dead End Friends -- Them Crooked Vultures
    * Get Free -- The Vines
    * Lasso -- Phoenix
    * Me Enamora -- Juanes
    * Oh My God -- Ida Maria
    * Portions of Foxes -- Rilo Kiley
    * The Hardest Button to Button -- The White Stripes

1990s

    * Been Caught Stealing -- Jane's Addiction
    * In the Meantime -- Spacehog
    * Plush -- Stone Temple Pilots
    * Walkin' on the Sun -- Smash Mouth
    * Beautiful People -- Marilyn Manson
    * Hey Man, Nice Shot -- Filter

1980s

    * Crazy Train -- Ozzy Osbourne
    * Here I Go Again -- Whitesnake
    * I Love Rock and Roll -- Joan Jett
    * Just Like Heaven -- The Cure
    * Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio
    * The Power of Love -- Huey Lewis and the News
    * Sister Christian -- Night Ranger
    * Everybody Wants to Rule the World -- Tears for Fears
    * Foolin' -- Def Leppard

1960s-1970s

    * Bohemian Rhapsody -- Queen
    * Break On Through -- The Doors
    * Crosstown Traffic -- Jimi Hendrix
    * Rock Lobster -- The B-52s
    * Cold as Ice -- Foreigner

And the newly announced tracks from Gamescom 2010 (whatever that is):

    * Bob Marley & The Wailers - “Get Up, Stand Up” (Jamaica)
    * INXS - “Need You Tonight” (Australia)
    * Poni Hoax - "Antibodies" (France)
    * Rammstein - "Du Hast" in German (Germany)
    * Roxette - "The Look" (Sweden)
    * Tokio Hotel - "Humanoid" (Germany)
    * HIM - “Killing Loneliness” (Finland)
    * Maná - “Oye Mi Amor” in Spanish (Mexico)
    * Slipknot - “Before I Forget” (United States)
    * War - “Low Rider” (United States)

Apparently they're making a big deal of going for more "international" music this round. Should be interesting...
