IGN's review is out for Halo 3, got a 9.5.

I guess it's akin to the second game in that the campaign is pretty weak but the multiplayer will server Xbox owners forever.

I had a feeling it wouldn't get a 10. But oh well tonight's the night and I'm gonna have some fun with that game.

Nice.

From what Ive heard Forge and the saved games feature are amazing. Campagin is a bit too short and that the game itself has a very satisfying end.

Im off to get mine now.

What will really be interesting is seeing the amount of 360 consoles this sells.

No really, it broke Spiderman 3 and Harry Potter 5's box office sales, and it's not even Halo: The Movie.

Okay, Witless, $10 for a movie ticket or $50 for a game?  Which one do you think is going to sell more?

Here's a quick blurb in Kotaku:

Microsoft May Make Gaming Money

Goldman, Sachs & Co. analysts are predicting that the game's release may have pulled in USD$170 million, which is so much cash it may actually see the group turn a profit.

Okay, 170 million is a LOT in one day, and, excluding the special edition, that's roughly 2,833,330 units sold day one, which is a lot, and 4 million ordered by stores according to Microsoft, and it'll probably go on to sell 10+ million units, probably more.  I don't know how much the game cost to develop and market, but probably a lot, at least a hundred million(as much as a big budget hollywood movie).

Still, even if they do sell 10 million units at $60 that's only 60 hundred million, more than I'll make in a lifetime n doubt, but let's put things in perspective:

Microsoft historically loses money in its entertainment division, it's kind of akin to one of Chairman Mao's Five Year Plans, only at the end of every plan they're even worse off than where they were to begin with.

As of a year ago, Microsoft was believed to have started making money on each 360 it sold,

http://digg.com/gaming_news/PS3_loses_up_to_306_per_unit_Xbox_360_profits_76_per_sale

$80 roughly, at launch and for the first good chunk of its life, loses were around $130.  The reason there was a drop was because overhead got higher and technology became cheaper in the year that 360 came out they could finally start making some smackers, until the repair bill for all those busted ass 360s came along.

http://kotaku.com/gaming/deep-pockets/microsoft-still-losing-big-bucks-on-xbox-division-280578.php

Microsoft's net loss was at 1.89 billion for the entire entertainment division as of July.

EVEN if they make 1 billion on this game from unit sales and console sales and LIVE subscriptions, they're still 890,000 million in the red, and while they're may be other blockbuster games this year for them, I think they're publishing about zero of them.

Suppose they do make a profit, they still got this to deal with:

I've been spending the last few hours playing through the campaign on co-op with a friend of mine.  Being the adventurous souls we are, we've jumped straight to heroic, which has been providing a surprisingly challenging experience.

The new toys are fun (I'm really feelin' that flamethrower), but the campaign itself has thus far been, as it's always been for the series, not particularly exceptional.  A couple good moments here and there, but it's mostly just killing aliens in occasionally interesting scenarios.  Luckily, I do enjoy killing aliens, so I guess it works out.

On the plus side, I think we're getting two more people over this evening to properly break in the multiplayer, and I don't doubt that it'll be fantastic.  And if it isn't...I don't know what to say.  I guess I'll be somewhat disappointed.

Lan party tommorow with me... that and a brand spankin new T.V.! I do like the one part:
Do you have an escape plan?
I thought I might shoot my way out. Mix things up a bit.
Too bad though they cut the AR's clip by about half... that really crushed me... But the Brute Spiker and the Dual wielding pistols made up for it.

Well, I bought it on my lunch break Tuesday and have been playing it on Normal because my room mate …. Well he sucks at Halo, so he could not take anything harder. But it’s far too quick on Normal. I walk past everything.

So I played some solo by myself on Heroic and was shocked at the increase in difficulty. It seems like quite the spike in challenge. It takes me quite a while to get through harder battles. Oh, and the Arbiter does ABSOLUTELY nothing, and I mean that literally. He stands there. And dies. Why did they give MY team crappy AI while the enemy pisses me off by actually taking cover when their shields go down? LOL…

Anyways, great game, though I have had little time to play it yet.

I love how when you’re doing co-op, the second player plays as Arbiter instead of a magically-existent Chief clone like in the last one.

However I will agree slightly with some of you and say that the campaign is slightly lacking. Though I won’t say it always has, because I loved the original Halo’s campaign. I think, IMO, it was when they started making it less of a “MC saves the world” thing and more of a “MC is a marine on the front line” thing.

The same thing happened to the Unreal series… the first one kicked all manners of ass, and the second felt like every other shooter out there.

But I digress, because overall, Halo 3 totally owns. I think I might get an XBL account because of this.

Since it's my sister birthday tomorrow, I won't be able to play it until then, but I'd like to ask you something...

Is it true that there is no way to play the campain four players on the same console? Only online? Because I was rwally looking forward to four players campain at home.

100% absolute agreement.

Got a call yesterday from a friend who owns Halo 3. Went over to his apartment and played/watched (he only has two controllers) as he and some of his friends played us over XBL.

Halo 3 is fucking amazing. The new weapons are awesome, the new levels are purdy. I especially love the bridge level with the launchers. That's fun.

New vehicles look pretty cool, too.

Oh, and customizeable multiplayer characters? Sweetness in a can.

I think I might get an XBL account because of this.
I think I might get a 360 because of this. lol

Haven't seen a single bit of the campaign, and never even came close to finishing 2's campaign, but the multiplayer alone is worth the cost.

Even people that are born with only a braintstem  don't play Halo for the campagin mode.  It's a joke.

Now Half-Life 2 on the other hand...

Anyway, after playing Metroid and PC FPS games, I just can't stand analog control, it's like trying to climb a mountain with boxing gloves or trying to walk a tight rope with ice skates.

Anyway, I won't deny Halo's great if all you have is a 360, but for people with PCs it's kind of silly.  Also, once a decent enough FPS comes out for the Wii, I think I'll enjoy it even more than the PC counter part.  The controls for Metroid were near perfect, the turning speed was just blegh though.

I thought Halo's campaign was awesome on all 3 games. And it's only short if you puss out and play it on normal mode. I love going through the game on legendary mode. It's freaken intense. And this one also has a points mode where you can strive for high scores in the campaign mode which adds to replay value. Of course it's no half life but half life doesn't come with the best fps multi player system ever made.
