Out of the 3D Zeldas: Majora's Mask Out of the 2D ones: The Minish Cap
My overall favourite is Majora's Mask but I think the general concensus is that Ocarina of Time is the best game in the series.

Top 3-D: Tie between Majora's Mask and The Wind Waker Top 2-D: Link's Awakening.
All three games made me feel involved with the story and the characters. Each of them deviated a bit from the regular Zelda formula in some way. I just felt connected overall with these games. That's how good they are.

Somehow I feel that a certain person will come here to advertise a similar thread to this one... Of course I can be wrong...
But based on what I wrote on *the* other thread the overall best Zelda game is Majora's Mask without a doubt. Of the 2-D games, The Minish Cap is the winner.

I haven't plugged this in a while, but The Definitive Legend of Zelda Review Thread has the answers, and more. All the LoZ games reviewed and ranked by our forum goers. If you've played them all yourself, give it a go too. Were you looking for something like this, Python?Anyway, to keep things brief, the best is almost certainly OoT just to be completely unoriginal. It's set to be my first VC purchase even after I said I wouldn't be using it for games I already owned.

You should be. TMC is one of the greatest Zelda handhelds about. If not THE greatest.
And the story kicks ass. 'Nuff said.

Hadn't noticed this is actually a "new" thread *cough*
Well, the best will always remain OoT for me, closely followed by MM.
As far as the 2-D ones are concerned, ALttP owns the realm, closely followed by TMC.
There you go.

Yes Hyruleansoldier if that was a hint to me promoting ALttp than I get it. If not oh well. ALttP>TMC Both are great 2D games and lately I've been feeling TMC a lot. Almost tied. OoT>TWW Both had a great feel of epicness but TWW was just too short. Now we now what happens when a Zelda game isn't mad right....(I'm talking about length not graphics) There is my more detailed break down.

OOT and MM, they are both strong and full games, the overworld is free and the dungeons are hard. the storys are also great and every little aspect is nicely tied up. i got very involved in both of them and it actually feels like there is a threat so you start to care about the world. basically it is these games all round strengths that makes them so good...

For me, the best 3D is between WW or TP. WW has the best story in a Zelda-game so far, while TP surpasses it in almost every other aspect.
The best 2D would be Alttp. That was the start for me. The game has a binding story and is extremly fun to play.

Out of the 2D Games I pick A Link to the Past because it took me a year or so to complete the game when I first played it. I played Link's Awakening first but ALttP was the game that got me hooked. Especialy the beginning of the story has a very dark atmosphere. Hyrule Castle is taken over, all the sages have been inprisoned. And the game starts with a storming rain. In my opinion every great epic game should start that way Out of the 3D games it's either Ocarina of Time of The Wind Waker. OoT because it has similiarities to the ALttP storyline (7 sages, Sacred Realm, Triforce plays a big part). I like The Wind Waker because it has so many great connection to OoT. The Great Deku Tree, Jabon, the mentioning of the Hero of Time, the chamber in Hyrule Castle with the six sages. I think it's so far the only game that really connects most of the games together.
