I was watching X-Play a while ago and they said, "The legend of zelda series has produced some amazing games like ocarina of time and a link to the past but also crap like wand of gamelon" what...the...heck...
how can they include wand of gamelon in the zelda series? it wasn't even approved by nintendo ???

They didn't say Nintendo has produced some good Zelda games, they said the Zelda series has. And the Zelda series is indeed responsible in producing the world where Link wears lipstick, simply by existing and being popular.

  -sigh-

I suppose that those damn CD-i games have ruined our reputation?
I wish we could just destroy every trace that those games ever existed, but they are good for a laugh..

Well i guess my point was is that they said it was from the zelda series. nintendo owns the rights to the zelda series. thats why i think wand of gamelon shouldn't be considered part of the series.

If it isn't on a Nintendo console it isn't part of the franchise, simple as that. The CD-i's were the bastard offspring of a CD project between Nintendo and Sony and later Phillips in the early nineties.

Nintendo were inspired by Sega's decision to produce the Mega CD with their own add on for the SNES. Sony went power mad and during the development, Nintendo dropped them and they were replaced by Phillips. Sony of course went on to make the Playstation which sold sensationally until its third edition, while Phillips worked happily with Nintendo until they worked out the idea sucked and the project fell through. They went on to make the CD-i...

Part of the deal following the collapse of the project was that Phillips were allowed to produce a number of games featuring Nintendo characters for the CD-i. This included Mario and Link.

In a Deku Nutshell: This was, in a very round about way, approved by Nintendo...

But it definitely shouldn't be classed as part of the Zelda series. FoE, WoG and ZA were just God-awful knock offs that should be forgotten. Bad X-Play.

*points to the Naughty Step*

Mild editing to separate the Sony/Nintendo and Phillips/Nintendo projects.

Man where the heck do you get this knowlege? I already knew about how nintendo and sony were about to be partners. But then sony decided that they wanted all the licensing, so nintendo turned to phillips and sony didn't get anything. Being the sore loosers they are (no offence) sony decided to try to get back at nintendo with the playstation. BUT NOW NINTENDO HAS STRUCK BACK!!! adn i digress....

Can't actually blame Sony for trying to make a profit from all that work. How was Nintendo to know that it would sell like a beast... Yeah, I spoke slightly positively about Sony there, let's not mention this again.

Anyway, the most frightening thing about the CD-i Zelda games was that there were three of them. I'm guessing Nintendo agreed to three games with a "no matter how bad they are" clause written in for Phillips' benefit.

Of course, it could be argued Link got off lightly compared to poor Mario...

Luckily there was only one if I recall, but that vid shows what could've been. Apparently Phillips felt they were up to making a sequel to Super Mario World, in the form of Super Mario's Wacky Worlds...

I'm guessing they saw the light in the end as it was replaced with a merely sub-standard Hotel Mario rather than a good awful platformer with "wacky" in the title, which is never a good thing.

Except maybe the Faces of Wacky could've worked... And been accurate... Damn those CD-i cut scenes...

Why do we have to keep talking about the CD-i Zelda games? Can't we just forget they ever existed? I know it will be difficult but worth a shot, methinks...

And about the Mario video... Awful, just awful! I wonder what the cut scenes would have been like... Would someone have pretended to be Charles Martinet yelling 'It's-a-me!'? And would Mario have looked as stupid as Link did?

Luckily we will never know...

Erm... Actually...

Yes, SMWW's replacement, Hotel Mario had cutscenes and voice acting. And yes, they were bad. Worse than Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo bad. Worryingly, Peach sounds like Peach should...

Also- they broke the fourth wall!!!!!
