The way link sounded in the wand of gamelon and the other one, it was just shocking i could'nt even watch it for 40 seconds... like i said in the other thread " IM SO HUNGRY I COULD EAT AN OCTOROCK!" I-it just doesnt work for The legend of zelda, Keep it as is. Plus its pretty funny having link as a mute.

I'm very lenient to keeping it the way it is. I guess VO would be OK, except for these conditions:

1) Keep Japanese voices an option, seriously the English one always sound more poorer in most games that I have played so far

2) Do it only in cutscenes.

3) Never make Link have dialogues on his own. This is what Link is all about and why he was given that name.

Most VO's these days are good. It's the animation that syncs with it that is poor.

There are lots of games that have good english VO's. as far as games go, it's rarely corny. Anime is a different story.

OK, this is one of the ingenious ideas form myamoto, while i do think some voice sound like the grunts and stuff is required, the other stuff, is for you to imagine it yourself,  LOZ lets you choose your characters voices and you decide how it should be, so it lets the gamer experience the game, like he developed it kinda, do you c what im saying? i just think it adds the gamers personality to the game a little bit. kinda. c what im saying.

What video games are you talking about?  English VAs are as crappy today as they've ever been in the world of video games.  Sure, there are a couple of exceptions, like Metal Gear, but overall, English VAs in video games are terrible, and it's not worth the risk of them ruining LOZ characters forever.

It's not just syncing the animation, it's their voices - they sound awful!  They're unappealing and ugly sounding, and they're either overacting entirely or totally monotone.  Now I'll get into trouble for pratically flaming: but in the states, VA's become VA's because they didn't land that part in that one show, or in that play, or in that movie, or because they were a hopeless raging 'otaku' to begin with.  That isn't exactly the best pool of talent.

Dynasty Warriors without the Japanse voice option?  EW, no.

Mystic Heros?  That game makes my ears bleed.

Even brand new games - take Final Fantasy 12.  The voices don't sound bad.  Oh, but wait.  Every male lead sounds exactly the same!  Literally - when I watch the cutscenes and look away from the screen momentarily, I can't tell who's speaking.

Tales of Symphonia? Yikes, mute button!

And so on and so forth...

Also saying only failed actors Voice video games is just plain wrong too...there have been famous actors voicing video games...one that comes off the top of my mind is Samual Jackson voicing Officer Tenpenny in GTA: SA

I really think Voice acting would be a welcome addition to the franchise if they did it right. I think the characters look silly moving their lips but not saying anything.

And for this reason, is why I like OLDER RPGs...  For me, voice overs can RUIN a fantastic game.  The ones that make the games might have a great "feel" for how a character should be, work hours on their personality and develop the character for a very long time just to have a half crap voice actor do their voice over and thrash what they meant for the character to be like.  I think a lot of rpgs rely on a persons imagination for it to be a "good game"  Sometimes putting a voice in there ruins that.  You can't really imagine what that character is like because someone made the choice for you.  IMO this really boils down to some people not liking to read. They would rather have the story told to them, rather than read it and might misread something.  I'd guess this is why some game companies like voice overs, they can be sure their story is going to be understood by the player.  meh,  I just don't like voices in games.  If I wanted that, I'd watch tv.  The voices in link games are fine!  I welcome those!  the "ahhh!!  URK!  EEEP!  oow!!  DAHHHH!  ummph"  sounds are fine because they are not actual words.  For me, I like to read.  One of my most favorite games was Xenogears (not xenosaga)  on ps1.  And that game had like what?  50 hours of text?  It was awesome. Also the topic of "localization" comes up. A game may be voiced great in Japan, but when it comes to our shores...Somebodys gotta sub it!  And who will do it?  Well, depends on how much the game company is willing to spend on it.  Soo this brings me to this..Wasn't SEPHROTH in kingdom hearts voiced by...A BACKSTREET BOY?  I'm not sure if thats true, I heard about it loong ago and never bothered to research it but this kind of thing happening...would with out a doubt ruin a game.  Sorry, for me, theres some lines you don't cross..and thats just weird.  lol.  But to each is own.

I would also have to say, that voices in some games is ok to me.  Just not in rpgs or anything of the sort.  Action games, thats fine,  as long as they don't talk too much, I'm fine with it.

I have to agree with you
