Did anyone else think that the light spirit Eldin could be the owl from OoT?  The forms obviously match, the Eldin spirit is definately passable as an owl.  And the location is uncanny...  Eldin is right outside Kakariko village, right where you meet him in OoT and TP.

On a side note, where is he named?  I don't remember hearing any of the NPC's naming him this...

I thought Eldin was more hawk-like with that giant wingspan... Maybe I should've paid more attention.

Anyway, I think you're just taking similiarities a bit too serious, much like the people who originally (and the few who still do) have KG down as Rauru in OoT.

As for his name, I thought he introduced himself, but a quick scan of a text dump suggested not. However, a couple of Gossip Stones around Hyrule do say his name.

Heh, those both show why people are keen on the KG/Rauru link.

I don't really buy into the whole rauru=kaepora Gaebora theory, but i do think that he could possibly be connected to eldin in TP.

i don't think its that unbelieveable, this is the first time i have heard it, but think about it. rauru is the only sage who seems to be in touch with his "sageness" in OOT and he is the only sage you don't meet in the real world/hyrule, he was waiting for Link/the hero wasn't he? so perhaps KG is just his earthly form that guides Link to his destiny? i guess it is a bit of a jump but the only reason i can't see it as being valid is because noone says "Rauru is KG".

but i definatly don't think that the eldin spirit is KG...

There is one big problem with the KG/Rauru link. And that's that KG indirectly funks up the theory when you meet him at the Desert Colossus...

Quote from: Kaepora Gaebora
Hey, what's up, Link?
Surprised to see me?
A long time in this world is almost nothing to you, is it?
How mysterious!
Even I thought that the tales of a boy who could travel back and forth through time was merely a legend.
Link, you have fully matured as an adult.

If he were Rauru, would he not recognise Link? I mean sure you could say he's feigning ignorance to conceal his identity, but Occam's Razor would tell us it's much easier to consider them as two separate beings.

Much like in this case with KG as Eldin.

I seriously doubt that "lighthearted" would carry the same double meaning in Japanese.

Perhaps he is a nod to Kasuto?

I don't think Kaepora is Rauru... if that was the developers' intention I'd think they would throw more nods or hints in that direction.

Though I do wonder if either Rauru or Kaepora were among the ghostly Sages seen in Twilight Princess.

As we know, Twilight Princess followed from the Ocarina child timeline. In this timeline Saria, Darunia, Ruto, Impa, and Nabooru were never awakened as Sages.

But what makes Rauru special? Why did he remain when the other Ancient Sages died or vanished?

Another thing- of the Sages in Ocarina, only Rauru was of the Hylian race. I wonder if the other Ancient Sages were all Hylian or were they more multicultural.

It might help explain why all all the maidens in ALttP are Hylian/Human.

Wow, that's a great point RM. i never thought about that before, I mean, I did wonder about the sages from TP, and the fact that they all appeare to be male and from the same race but I forgot that Saria and the others wouldn't be called to their sage calling in the child line.

Don't you think it's strange how in TP they got the Sage of Water to kill Ganondorf. Don't you think they would have gotten a more important one to do it? ???

I think they made Water do it because he's so hard to beat. (Water temple, great bay, lakebed...)

Yeh i suppose, i just didn't really see it as a very important Sage that the others would get it to (try) kill Ganondorf.

I really like the idea that KG is Kasuto (Kasuto Garuto? ). He is definately stated to be an ancient Sage reincarnated.  And we have all the Sages names in OoT as town names in AoL . . . the only town not represented is Kasuto . . . Kasuto must have been a sage. Who was he? Kaepora Gaebora!

But . . . it's fanfic.

What's fanfic? The town of Katsu?
If it is a town called Katsu in AoL, I would believe it't KG.

No, I'm saying it's fanfic to assert that Kasuto is the name of a sage. I'm all for it, but it's fanfic.
