Thanks a lot guys!

Oh, Wise Link, I see what you mean now, but if you look at my reference image http://www.thehylia.com/media/displayimage.php?album=66&pos=4 you can see that the ends there aren't as much "stairs" as on the in-game image you last posted, frankly because the game can't handle that many polies (If you know what I'm talking about) and since I'm modeling the high-poly version of the sword, I think I'll leave it like it is now.

PsychoMe: You've made the shield? nice, I hope you find it
I realized that the "stairs" were not in the official art but I figured they added them into the game after drawing that. I'm not entirely sure that they would have to make it like that because of the game not being able to handle it graphically because the Master Sword's handle in Soul Calibur 2 has the flat edges like how they are shown in the official art. I will not try force you to change it if you don't feel the need to though since it already looks so awesome as is.

I think it's worth mentioning that I got a wii today!
Without even pre-ordering, I had some mates of me camp outside the store from last night, and they've just gotten out of the shop with the wii close in their grips!

Hi people, I'm posting a progress shot on the shield, just to let you know that I'm working on it   The model has brought me a lot of pain, but I've gotten better and it's starting to take shape faster and faster
(sorry about the large image, but it is a screen shot )

VERY COOL! if i may suggest the blade needs to be a little longer and the handle needs to be wrapped.

also has anyone considered buying a master sword off Ebay? I'm getting married soon and I want to do something stupid and nerdy befor she moves in
Buy it from Southwest Blades or some place similar, NOT EBay.  They are horrid.

Dude, you're the man, so just buy it.  If it isn't going to cause a financial difficulty for you to buy it, then just do it.  Be a man and not a wuss.

Just a quick texture test, it's all steel/silver for now
(the triforce is not the right color, but I'll change it)

Edit:
Oh, and maybe some admin could change the thread name to "The Master Sword and the Hylian shield" or something?

That sword is damn impressive. Very well done, man. Keep it up!

The sword looks good. There is room for improvement though.

The handle could use some more detail and I'm not really digging that circular part above the handle.

Maybe a more sphere-like form would fit it better.

The sword looks good, but here's what would make it look way better with almost no effort:

Reflection (ray-trace works best imo) map on the blade, or a better (do you have one?) specular map on the blade

Overall better lighting scheme.

Lighting and materials makes the model!

But the handle looks sick. Good job on it.

I have been working on the Kokiri sword for a while now, but one problem I've had is that I want the handle to be wrapped, but I have no clue where to begin with that in 3D Studio Max. Anyone know of a tutorial or something? Here are two items I have done so far.

Lucky for you, the mapping tools in 3dsmax 8 recieved a big uprade from version 7, so mapping is now actually pretty simple.  For tutorials, I'm not entirely sure where to look...just search for them or ask around on conceptart.org

happy new year, people! And thanks for the positive replies and critiques, I really appreciate it

No update yet, I've been busy playing tp

cooldude:
I'm not a very good unwrapper, but I've done it before, max 7. just go to modifier list and choose unwrap UVW. the rest I don't remember atm. I know of some tutorials, video tutorials! Go to http://www.3d-palace.com/index.php?page=tut1 and go to the 3ds max section, I would recommend "Ultimax Addons 1 - The Skimmer - Beginner to Intermediate" But I've heard that "Blackout: The Escape Unit - Beginner to Intermediate" is pretty good too.
I wish you all of luck with your little project

Yeah, max 9 will come in handy I guess I can't be bothered with it, I'm too lazy to get myself a copy, I have to set up vray and other addons as well if I want max 9. I'll stick to 8 for now

Back to topic, I won't be coming with an update for some time, due lots of tests going on at school >.>
