I'm sorry, but I can't see the image.  It's just like it's not there.  Is it because of the new Internet Explorer update?  Anyway, could you perhaps make a link to it?  I would really like to see it.

I's still unsure how to approach the metal material for the blade. I'm completely new when it comes to materials, I can model, but not texture. lol

Just follow one of the video tutorials and you should be fine
EDIT: personally I don't think you really need to unwrap the blade, just apply some standard materials to it (they suck though) or search the web for either some tutorials on how to make such materials, or just search for free downloadable materials. OR, if you have V-Ray (rendering engine for max and other programs) there's some pretty good standard materials that comes with the package, and lots of good tutorials for it too. I just found a pretty good Vray Metal Kit: http://www.osmosis.com.au/info/downloads.htm

I spent the morning looking for tutorials on making metal materials. After 6 hours, still no luck.

it's a mental ray tutorial, but that shouldn't be a problem, cause it's one of the render engines that is standard in max.
