So i find it very ignorant to say something isnt possible. It should be more like " inprobable".
The lilypad could very well exist in our future.

I said there's no chance of it happening right now, but maybe 20-30 years from now.

"The goal is to create a harmonious coexistence of humans and nature."

I find this quote hilarious.  The creator of these things wants to create a harmonious coexistence of humans and nature by building humungous, floating masses of metal and glass for humans to live in while these masses drift around the ocean.  Where does nature factor into this?  These things seem to separate humans from nature more than bring them together.

This professional bubble gum hippo deems the idea a big lump of dumb.

Did you read ANY of his first post? This "dumb" floating mass of metal and glass Is entirely Eco-friendly and gets its energy from the environment.

"With a central fresh water lagoon acting as ballast, the whole construction would be carbon neutral utilizing solar, thermal, wind, hydraulic, tidal and osmotic energies.

With high density populations living in low-lying areas -- The Netherlands, Polynesia, Bangladesh -- the ecopolis, its creator believes, could be the answer to mass human displacement that global warming is predicted to cause."

That sounds pretty Nature-Oriented to me.

"Nature-Oriented" is not the same thing as "a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature".  The image I get from this is the floating city where all the humans reside is busy providing power to itself by non-polluting methods, therefore very slowly allowing the planet to detoxify and attain a new ecological balance which humans will be no part of because they will be living on a big metal bubble for the whole time.  When do we coexist with nature?

Humans will be long gone before these "changes" become noticable. And no, were not frogs. We won't die if were surviving in 30 degrees weather. Seriously, your blowing these "changes" way out of proportion in comparison to the probable amount of times humans will be dwelling here.

Humans are alot smarter than their ancestors. We have technology. If we use it correctly this will never happen in our lifetime.

Well, what does the word "coexist" mean?  (Hint: this dictionary says "to exist at the same time or in the same place.")  So even if this ecopolis would mean sitting in a metal bubble for however long, humanity would certainly be coexisting with nature (well, provided there's still some left when/if these things actually come about).  And the coexistence would be pretty harmonious too, barring a few natural disasters, seeing as people in these floating cities wouldn't be doing much of anything to harm the environment.  So really, this thing does exactly what it purports to do.

I think that, barring global warming, this could still be a wonderful option for expanding our living space or creating research centers in distant areas of the world. Of course, a research center might be on a bit of a smaller scale, but my point stands.

Our world is quickly becoming overpopulated. Unless we can do something about the rapidly rising birthrates in certain areas of the world, this may be our only option for further expansion until we can reach space.

As long as the natural areas were done well enough, I wouldn't mind living on one of those. I would be sad if I could never leave, but assuming they're used for overflow/alongside our land currently in use, I think it wouldn't be much different than any other city. Just...out in the middle of the ocean.
