Miyamoto's 6 PM conference better kick ass.

-----------

New Super Mario Bros Wii looks good. I'll probably be picking it up. But, I don't know...it seemed like a lackluster opening. Very lukewarm response.

Super Mario Galaxy...not sure how I feel. I loved the original. I guess I would've just preferred something new and not as soon. I still remember playing the first one.

Metroid Other M was *THE BEST* part of the show. Definitely looking for that one.

Mario and Luigi 3? I'm down for that.

Mario v Donkey Kong 3? Was never by cup of tea, but nice.

DS boom of user-created content? Not crazy about it, but nice.

Golden Sun DS? A nice surprise. I'll wait on this one.

Otherwise...there was a lot of junk at this conference. Stupid casual DS bullshit. Too much focus on Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus. This conference was better than last year's by far. Not the best E3 they've had. But, maybe Miyamoto can change that later...

The Hits
- Super Mario Galaxy 2 - I know most of the material will be recycled, but there should be enough variation in courses and bosses for this to slide. And rock.
- Metroid Other M - Words cannot describe the awesomeness of this one.
- Wario Ware DIY - With the exception of Cammie feeling like she had to explain the term DIY to us, this looked good.
- Golden Sun DS - Though I still have to finish GS 2 (It got a little awkward for my liking) I'll be keeping my eye out for this one.

The Misses
- No Pikmin 3 - This actually just makes it look like Miyamoto was made to say this was coming on the fly last year.
- No Miyamoto - His biggest star gets three new titles, yet the great man himself does not make an appearance. Bit of a shame.
- Women's Murder Club, Style Savvy, etc: Nobody cares, least of all those of us who actually watch E3.
- New Super Mario Bros Wii - This one disappointed me with a) All the talk of a fourth dimension - terrible link; and b) Looking like it would just be four-player stuff. With the exception of Zelda: FSA, surely such a feature should be just an optional extra.
- Cammie skims over a new Zelda game like it doesn't matter - Seriously, no demo? No discussion of newer features? Sad times.
- Vitality Sensor - Urk.

I love love loved the conference. But I'm getting really fed up with the Nintendo community's bullshit. YOU GOT MARIO AND METROID. Who the hell cares if Zelda wasn't announced? It's still coming!

I had no hope for a Zelda announcement but feel Ninty could have pacified the rabbid Zelda fans a little more by at least explaining Spirit Tracks, confirming the 2009 release and telling us what the heck they're doing with a train.

I expect that will be happening at Miyamoto's roundtable tonight. I was surprised we didn't get another trailer.

Well, looks like I was right about no Zelda! I stopped watching about 3/4 through, so I didn't see the Mario Galaxy/Metroid announcements. The conference was conducted a little better than last year - I particularly liked Reggie's trash talk towards Bill when they were playing basketball. It was kind of funny since every word of it was so obviously scripted.

I did notice that almost (if not all) of the games displayed were sequels, something which didn't even happen last year. We've got 4 new Mario titles, all of which are sequels. Even the casual games (Wii Sports 2, Wii Fit 2) are all sequels, an unusual trend since they're supposed to be unique pieces of software that offer some sort of new experience for non-gamers. I can't see either of them matching the sales of their predecessors. Likewise, I don't think new Mario and Metroid titles are anything to get worked up about. Not to say that they'll be bad games, but we all know what to expect - a close facsimile of the previous title with some new settings and enhancements.

I'm glad to see Metroid and Mario galaxy announced. But the vitality sensor seems kinda worthless other than it could be used as a feature to control your character by the game sensing you fear (or other emotion) and give your enemy a advantage/disadvantage depending on you.

Hope to hear more at round- table.

ONM have revealed a few things on Twitter that were missed in the conference. Sin and Punishment 2 is set for a Q1 2010 release. Professor Layton 2 will hit the States on August 24. Link will be equipped with a whip in ST. Golden Sun DS, Endless Ocean 2 and Picross 3D will be on show alongside the previously mentioned titles.

Are you serious? Metroid looks freaking brilliant! How could you not be looking forward to it?

I didn't see the Mario Galaxy/Metroid announcements.
Oh. Okay. Go watch the trailer now. You'll miss the amazement and surprise that came from actually watching it live, though.

Link will be equipped with a whip in ST.
Awesome.

I say... Ninetndo's Press Conference pleased quite well!  I am very happy about the announcement of a Super Mario Galaxy 2, and that "Metroid: Other M", game?  Too awesome!  XD

Much applause from me for this years Nintendo E3-press conference.

Thank you.

I for one am glad there's no news of Zelda yet. I think it needs to rest for another year or two at least (maybe just one).

I'm glad they decided to put some effort into another Mario title and Metroid works for me too.

And as always I already know of the other stuff coming that wasn't really gonna get announced there. Such as Act Rise Fantasia, a new Tales game, and of course, No More Heroes 2, which I look forward to more than anything on the Wii right now.

So I'm not worried or upset.

I would be shocked if it wasn't at E3 next year. Nintendo may have learned not to release too many AAA titles too close to each other, so we probably won't actually be playing it until 2011. Which is fine with me.

Especially an amazing Metroid! And Galaxy 2 looks really good too.

There's a roundtable hosted by Miyamoto that's happening right now. Don't expect any big news, but Pikmin was confirmed to be in development at last year's roundtable, so...

My thoughts after last night and catching up on trailers, etc this morning:

Nintendo:
- SMG2 looks decent. Too much Yoshi though. Not a Yoshi fan.
- Golden Sun looks ok. I've not played any of the previous games but from all accounts, they're pretty awesome.
- KH 358/2 Days looked decent. Nothing too exciting was revealed but I heard the name Roxas a few times during the trailer; not a fan of Roxas from KH2 so not sure what to make of it.

Quote from: EA
Professor Layton 2 will hit the States on August 24.

YES!

Quote from: EA
Link will be equipped with a whip in ST.

Haha what. First thing that came to mind is Link's turned to BDSM...

Sony:
- Uncharted 2's gameplay looks so so SO awesome. Surrounds looks awesome. Not so sure about his girly sidekick this time round though. Might prefer Elena even though she turned out to be quite annoying.
- Assassin's Creed II's gameplay looks absolutely fabulous. The flying machine is so fitting with the times the game is set in and his new arsenal makes me drool. Yeah, can't wait for November. Potential to unlock specials if the PS3 game is linked with the PSP game? Bah. Not so excited about this aspect.
- The Last Guardian - music is still awesome, but the graphics have changed slightly since the youtube clip release a while back. The pet/animal thing looks a lot less cute now than it did in the YT clip but wow. Game will be so awesome.
- Gran Turismo will be out on the PSP? This could be good, particularly if what they're saying is true and that it'll be a true GT game with the same level of framespeed, etc. Was hoping to hear more on the release date for GT5 though.

So overall, Nintendo disappointed muchly but that was to be expected. Sony was much better than I'd thought would happen and the gameplay footages just made me drool. Would've been good to hear something on KH3 but that was always going to be farfetched.

He also said it'll be using Wii MotionPlus and it should be there next year.

Also:
"I'm sorry," Miaymoto said when we asked him why the new Pikmin wasn't at this E3. "Unfortunately we haven't been able to expand the team size very much, because we've been working on so many different games that we've shown off at the show. So the team is working very hard, but it's a bit of a small team."
Pikmin should really be a bigger priority.

WOW! the conference has already happened??? i thought it wouldn't happen till this W/E...metroid?!? SWEET

Ok, Mario Galaxy 2 looks sweet...being a whinging nelly i have to say this though, why two? i'ts unprecedented and it seems like they are just rushing another one out instead of making a compleatly new Mario game because Galaxy was so epically successful and appealed to both markets,(casual and core).
but despite me cynisism, it looks cool, the addition of Yoshi will be interesting, and that music is just epic.

Metroid M, Who are Ninja? what have they made? one of the things i loved about corruption was that it was actually hard, will this continue or can't we say? Also, is this a sidescroller? at times it looks like it is, at others it doesn't seem to be, also in the gameplay, i.e outside the movies it looks cel shaded? interesting...

Team Ninja brought such games as Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive (both on XBox).

And the thing about Ninja Gaiden for XBox is that it was friggin' hard.
