Are you serious? Metroid looks freaking brilliant! How could you not be looking forward to it?

I just don't care much for Metroid at all. I've tried playing the first Metroid Prime games but got pretty bored and stopped playing. However, I do think the titles are something to look forward to if you're a fan, they're just nothing to jump out of your seat over yet. All we know of Galaxy 2, for instance, is that it's mostly the same with some new planets and a couple new items.

He also said it'll be using Wii MotionPlus and it should be there next year.

The article I've read more strongly implies that 2010 is the absolute earliest, and it will probably get pushed into 2011. It seems that my suspicions were correct about Zelda Wii - it's technically in development, just like how Pikmin is in development, only with a very small team. I would have to guess that the team is less than 10 people and development only started after Wii Fit at the earliest. It would seem that although casual software is supposed to be fast and easy to develop, Nintendo probably still allocates a full team to develop their titles, which leaves only a handful of people to brainstorm ideas for the next Zelda or Pikmin or what have you.

Also, another note on the sequels. I dug up an old N-Sider article from back in the Gamecube days, which discusses how Nintendo used to fall back on old franchises and characters instead of developing new ones. I wonder if they're beginning to do the same thing again. It seems like a dangerous move with their casual software - casual gamers can't be as keen to rush out and buy an upgraded version of Wii Fit, because they're probably completely satisfied with the original.

Read the roundtable and  the only mention of a zelda wii is a picture.  It sucks because no pictures were allowed but the description was it shows link being "more grown up than ever."

Also here you go just a litle article about it:

Oh I'm sorry. Is it my fault that Nintendo fails to impress me and has done so repeatedly since the release of MM? If we're not only talking about Zelda, then the last games which really made me go WOW were SMG and Zack & Wiki. To me, the Wii has failed as a console and the gimmicky crap they're continually throwing at us for both the Wii and the DS (read that as DSi is a stupid gimmick) are unnecessary and they'd be better off spending the time and energy on making decent games instead of this "let's entice casual/non gamers to this and pretend they know shit about games".

I wasn't too disappointed by Nintendo's conference yesterday.  A new Mario coming out and Metroid is a giant leap from what they presented to us last year, so I commend the effort.  I think Nintendo tried to right their mistakes from last year, and I'm appreciative.  It is also nice to finally hear something more substantial about the Zelda in development, even though we probably won't see anything for a while.  And, technically, they are coming out with a new Zelda (ST), so I'm not sure the Zelda community has a lot of room for complaint.

Now, that doesn't mean that I agree with Nintendo's philosophy of "everyone's game," but I've resigned myself to the fact that Nintendo will continue to pander towards casuals until they lose interest.  Thus, we will continue to see a lot of uninteresting, gimmicky stuff like the vitality sensor, etc.

BTW, Looking forward to Splinter Cell: Conviction and Assassin's Creed 2.

Heres what I think nintendo will do.

1.Wait till GDC this year and release a trailer along with release date.(around early of 2010
2. Move back the date a few times.
3. Then release.

Did you see the trailer? It's a completely different style of game. More "action" than "adventure."

No, I meant we'll see it at next year's E3. And I think you're assuming way too much. We haven't heard anything about the Zelda team shrinking. If that was why it wasn't shown, he probably would have said it, like he did with Pikmin. Just because they're taking a long time with it doesn't mean they're slacking or that it's not a priority. If the concept art is as impressive as it sounds, they may have an incredibly ambitious idea that they're taking a lot of time to fully realize.

Also, another note on the sequels. Nintendo's always "fallen back" on new franchises, but they've also made them fresh and new with most iterations. The Mario series practically reinvents itself with each game. But I agree that the sequels probably won't sell very well.

You didn't play World of Goo. And had you played Golden Sun or Metroid Prime (both of which were released after MM), you might understand why they were such a big deal. I don't want you to leave (please don't!), but just because you're ignoring good games doesn't mean they don't exist.

I agree on the two highlighted points. I realize people are going to get upset about the wait but it's all happened before and it will happen again. People are always going to be unhappy for one reason or another.  And also a point I've brought up in other forums is the arguments from XBOX and PS3 fan boys is that there are more games released on their system. I find that a very stupid argument because from what I can tell Microsoft and Sony rely totally on 3rd party to supply games while on the other hand Nintendo provides systems and releases games designed by them. So you have to think about how little the time they have for creating things on schedule and keeping their fans happy at the same time.

Good point, but I'm not quite sure what BSG has to do with any of this!

We got Mario, Metroid, Golden Sun, and a tiny bit of Zelda this year. That seems more than reasonable. Plus, we still have other games that weren't shown coming, like Sin and Punishment 2, Muramasa, and A Boy and His Blob. It didn't necessarily "make up for" the disappointments of the last two years, but it was definitely a strong showing.

Very funny!!!! When I saw the BSG part  I was like wtf then I understood you were referencing BattleStar and I LMAO-ed.

But anyhow I  do agree what you were saying I just hate the whining that people do. They could tone it down a bit.

Games which don't interest me are games which don't interest me, therefore Nintendo's not done anything to produce games which interest me. I've got the World of Goo file now (thanks ninjaChibi) but given that I've not touched a console for at least a good 2 months, it's hard to see me try it out any time soon.

Who said I'm leaving?

Well in regards to the comment that Mario G 2 and metroid will be the same rehashed games with some extra features, i feel this is not a fair critisism, firstly, Mario G 2 basically says in the title that it will be just that, considering its closeness to the previous game i don't think it is fair to think anything other of it, it has Yoshi and a few extra blocks enemies and levels, what more did you think they would do, it is Mario Galaxy two(heh, rhymes.)

AS for Metroid M, its not even in first person...

hmmm Link more grown up then ever? with a beard perhaps? i like this...

I don't usually (read: ever) say this but...

ZOMG!!

Golden Sun for DS! Thank you Camelot!

Otherwise, pretty good stuff from Nintendo. SMG2, NSMB Wii, Zelda: ST, Mario & Luigi 3, Wii Sports Resort (Yes, I'm excited for it, so what?). And although I don't personally care too much for Metroid, the trailer was awesome.

And of course Zelda Wii...

EDIT: This isn't strictly E3 but... Black Wii confirmed for Japan. Releases on August 1st. And if you don't find Kotaku reliable... Nintendo Japan.

I'm excited for Super Mario Galaxy 2!  It's hardly going to be crazy amazing like the first one but it will still be a lot better than Sunshine.

I'm a little confused about NSMB Wii though,  is it going to be an actual 2-D mario game or is it just going to be an expanded version of the NSMB multiplayer that is only moderately fun?

I love Metroid, but I was kind of wishing Nintendo would wait until they release a new console before they made another 3-D metroid since Retro had been driving the prime trilogy into a bit of a formulaic rut.  I'm not sure if I like this yet.

I'll like Golden Sun DS as soon as it stops looking like a port of the GBA ones.

The Wii Zelda will have the oldest Link ever???????  :/  hmm.  That would make it the coolest game ever, if I were 7 years old.  Nintendo needs to divulge something with a little more substance before I start getting excited about this.

Oh, and Starfy looks pretty fun.

There wasn't a single part of Galaxy I wasn't impressed with. If they can keep that going for 120 stars in the first game, and have Miyamoto say he wasn't completely satisfied with it, I have no doubts about the sequel, especially with Yoshi.

First of all: No. Corruption was amazing. Echoes was really good. Prime was one of the best games I've ever played. But even so, Retro has nothing to do with this, and it's a completely new direction for the series.

I wasn't impressed by the purple coin missions or the fact that the Honeyhive and Gold Leaf Galaxies were half the same.

Corruption was good, not amazing.  It was way too easy combat-wise and the computer would tell you exactly what you needed to do even if you turned off the hint function.  Oh, and the game gave you the locations of all the pickups.

Were you on easy mose or some crap? Play the game on Hyper mode, much better experince.

And you dont HAVE to get the map data with the item locations, only casuals did.

Yes, Hypermode was wonderful, except that you had to play through easy mode to be allowed the honor of doing hypermode.  I would have few gripes with the game if Hypermode were available at the start.

Well there is medium mode, but I get your point. I hate games that dont let me play the dificulty I want from the start.
