This is a response to this questrion that was posted in the E3 discussion.
Everybody seems way more excited about Versus XIII than Plain Ol' XIII, you know, the actual new entry in the main series.  It makes me a little confused.
Heres the thing: XIII seems to be centered around tons of idiotic action scenes- in the first trailer it had Lightning dropping a thousand feet and then using a gravity gun. The second just showed more of the same, except a few new locations and reflexes that are too inhuman, even for a game. Then the third had some story but showed how much it centered on looking pretty.

Versus starts by having the lines. "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes them so." This is to show that the plot is going to require a lot of thought and will show more a side to humanity than any of the other games. The song it has playing, Somnus, also helps to convey the story, though it's been a long time since I saw the translation. The second is the action oriented one, but still works on giving mystery to the main man, whose name was finally revealed two years ago, Noctis Lucis Caelum. The third trailer had a terrible song, but it added more factions into the story and the fourth was longer than all the others, giving even more details to the story and finally showing off three of Noctis' teammates, Stella, and even more of Nostis vs. the soldiers.

Versus is liked so much better because it is much more story focused than Normal XIII, which is almost all about the action and pretty graphics.
Any questions about any of the XIIIs, ask me.

Hey :D  I appreciate you clearing that up for me.

Although,  I can't see how you can make claims like...

Versus is liked so much better because it is much more story focused than Normal XIII, which is almost all about the action and pretty graphics.

...when neither you nor anybody else has actually played either of the games.  I think all that can be said now is what trailer people like better.

Another point I`d like to make is that a trailer for a Final Fantasy game doesn`t really need to reveal anything about a plot, since the series has such a good track record with storytelling.  I think when a new FF game is announced, a good story is implied and doesn`t need to be mentioned.  Just because FF XIII`s trailer emphasizes the changes in the battling and snazzy graphics doesn`t mean there isn`t going to be any plot under it.

I watched the trailer of Versus XIII with my friends and while I don`t remember which of the 4(?) trailers I watched, It just seemed to me to be all about some pouty emo teenager with superpowers.  I guess we should just take what we want from the trailers and wait until the games actually come out before we make any serious judgments.
