The final megaton announcement at E3, and I don't think anyone saw this coming. It's a prequel to the Metroid series, being co-developed by Team Ninja and Nintendo. The (awesome) reveal trailer can be seen here. It appears to switch between 2D and 3D as you play, as well as first-person and third-person perspectives. I'm incredibly excited for this game. It's getting released next year.

No, I mean the gameplay switches between 2D and 3D. The graphics stay the same. The overall style actually reminds me a lot of Super Metroid.

I never played metroid, but I hear manny things about it on the Internets.
Since there aren't manny great games for the Wii, I'm considering of buying this.

This is a shame. I recommend getting Super Metroid on Virtual Console, and then picking up the Metroid Prime Trilogy compilation when it comes out in August.

Reggie confirmed it won't be playable on the show floor. Oh well.

Metroid corruption is one of my favourite Wii games, because it had difficult boss fights and puzzles it is also the only Metroid i have played.
Metroid M looks interesting, but i don't know if it is really what i want, i guess it is a change for the series which is good especially for a nintendo game but i don't know if the shift towards action is something i want i liked the exploring of abandoned cities with the lore and the puzzles.

I do have to say kudos to N though, compared to Zelda and mario, Metroid has been changing constantly with many innovations from Prime to this, its a good way to manage a series if not slightly dissapointing to different fans at different times...

This trailer was indeed the reason Nintendo's press conference was saved (Iwata, I'm looking at you). Indeed, the trailer makes the game look more action-oriënted with a lot more character development, two things the Metroid franchise isn't exactly known for. Also, I was slightly disappointed with the art style. Even MP1 looked more realistic than this, though the special effects are nice enough.

All in all, as long as the action and story add up to the already existing Metroid formula, then this is going to be one hell of a game to look forward to. If not, oh well, at least it looks to be a decent Ninja Gaiden clone with Sci-Fi elements.

So...it's not a prequel. It takes place in between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. I think the game's style feels much more in line with the Metroid series as a whole when compared to the Prime series. Not that I didn't love Retro's art direction.

Gee I’m really excited about this. When I first heard i sighed at the developer but the early screen shots and footage looks really good.
I like the idea of switching from 2D to 3D which should increase tactics and action which in some parts lacked in the prime trilogy. Still Retro’s attention to detail, amazing artwork and detailed log entries will be missed.
I heard the Ninja Gaiden series were tough games so the increased difficulty will be welcomed in Metroid.

I really like the HUD in the spoiler photos! I was never a HUGE fan of Metroid, but I do really enjoy Echoes. I have it for GameCube (obviously) and I've enjoyed it. I have nothing bad to say about the graphics or the gameplay. It's Nintendo's Metal Gear in my opinion.
I might get Other M. I'm guessing it's going to be out around the time the next Zelda is.

I kiiiiiiind of wish that development of Other M would wait until the next gen of consoles so that the whole game could look like those super spiffy cutscenes, as the prime games used the gameplay graphics for the cinematic moments to make the whole presentation a more cohesive affair, but I'm sure the game will still be plenty spiffy regardless.  Do we know yet what's up with Samus's new green suit?

Eeeh. I know they can do better. just look at the cut scenes from Brawl and a few other games. TP ones were okay, but they are more capable of making better looking cut scenes.

This. I guess it looks kind of green in some shots, but it's definitely (probably) just the Varia Suit.

Well, they can make a sequel next generation then! This isn't really a game I want to wait for.

I'm sure most of you know about the new metroid game being co-developed by team ninja. I'm sure many of you 2-d metroid fans are drooling over this, and I don't blame ya. And I'm sure many prime fans are on the fence about this. So I ask you, what do you want from this game? More story? More action? C'mon guys let us all know!

I don't want the world to be overpopulated with NPCs or the cinematic nature of the game to overtake the exploration aspect. It should still be a Metroid game when all is said and done.

Oh sure, a few NPCs are great, but they shouldn't be everywhere. Metroid Prime 3 is a good example of the amount of NPCs that should be in the game. Norion has quite a few of them, and there are some parts in the game where you heavily interact with NPCs, but the majority of the game is spent with Samus alone, which is the way it should be.

Yeah, the npcs in corruption had PURPOSE, you know? The NPC's should serve a purpose that helps you or others. Not some guy hanging around for no apparent reason. I also hope there's some sort of scan system.

The scan system was fun but I don't know if it's entirely necessary. It was rather pointless in Hunters (which wasn't developed by Retro), so I don't know if Team Ninja can make a satisfying scan log.

I also want the game to come out sooner.
