I think MM has the best storyline regarding... the temples, what happens inside of them...
You should point to the parts of these temples where storyline progression takes place, because I don't remember any story-related occurrences. And no, rescuing the Deku princess doesn't count.

...Wait, why were you talking about that in this thread?

I'm fine with the Queen of Fairies being a major character, especially if Zelda isn't in the game. In fact, I think I'd prefer a Zelda-free game. She doesn't need to be in every major game, and the games that haven't featured her are usually quite good.

Can't argue, but if this really is (and that's a big IF) HoT Link come back I would be a little sad if that Zelda didn't come back too, but I could live with it. After all, I guess the two of them can't really be together.

Where it all leads down to is freaking continuity in the freaking timeline. Something we can hold on to and think '' Oh right! I know this. And that. ''

I don't mind Zelda, Ganondorf and Link, but give them a logical part in the game that actually makes sense. Not the ''Ganon escaped from [insert location] and plans to conquer Hyrule'' or Zelda that just HAPPENS to be named Zelda but isn't the same freaking person. Seriously, why do the King and Queen feel the need to name every princess Zelda?

Give it logic.

The only logical thing that keeps returning is Link. Who keeps returning as a regular guy that gets into some kind of trouble and eventually finds out he is a destined hero. It's logical ( somewhat ).

Seriously, give me a beautiful as hell Zelda game with awesome controls. And by awesome controls, I mean a new kind of battle system that doesn't have a Left-Left-Right combo, but freaking jumping combo's, some spinning, sword twirling, whatever. The game needs to be more dynamic. Think chain combo's, actually being able to jump other than from ledges. Re-invent the game if need be.

Riding Epona and being able to fight those goons on those Warthogs was awesome. There needs to be more of that.

Give it some Prince Of Persia, some Assasins's Creed, some Tomb Raider, some Shadow Of The Colossus, some Kingdom Hearts.

@ZC: Comparing ALttP with 3D Zeldas doesn't work. You don't need a sidekick in 2D really. Not sure why they started adding one (PH) lately, but I hope ST doesn't have one.

3D Zelda is different. Yes, Navi was annoying and they overused her and made her give away a little too much of the obvious . . . but if she had been cut out of the game entirely (same with the MM fairy and KoRL and Midna) the game would have been far too difficult. 3D environments are more difficult to orient oneself and it's nice to have a sidekick point out when you're overlooking something.

That being said, they definitely need to develop a better engine for determining when you need help and when you don't. And I think they are. I think that's what that strange thing that Miyamoto trademarked recently is about.

@Witless: "Seriously, why do the King and Queen feel the need to name every princess Zelda?"
Did you not play TAoL? The answer lies within.

@ZC: Your ramble about cliche anthropomorphism in other media bears no significance. What we're talking about is a story where a beloved relic either becomes a person or has always previously been a person. I can think of NO games where that is the case. And the only other media I can think of that being the case is a roleplaying book (similar to Choose Your Own Adventure, but RPG-ish) where they took Excalibur's nickname "the Singing Sword" literally and had it sing everything to the hero of the story, face on blade and all.

This Fairy Queen is related to the Master Sword in some way. I'm not insisting she IS the Master Sword, though that's very possible. Another option is that this takes place prior to the Master Sword and someone designs the Master Sword to resemble her. But the resemblance is uncanny and unquestionable.

I REALLLLLY don't think this is Navi.

And I REALLLLLY don't think this is the HoT. Miyamoto's quote indicates that this is an entirely new era of Zelda, not a direct sequel to any existing game.

Hells yah totally agree. But don't make game play as repetitive as Assassins creed.

Witless, i agree, A new combat system and engine overall is neccisary, we have been using slightly modified versions of OoT's for two, and possibly a third generation of consoles.
Assassins creed has some excellent inspiration for Zelda, Parkour would be great with exploration and fits into links character well. Also, the small amount of items altair carries could be taken to link, i.e he has a sword, hookshot and a bow then all other problem solving features are inherrent in the environment, this would eliminate things like timely aquisition of items to defeat the next boss etc.

This art and new game may have just ruined a few crucial points in my story. But what does Nintendo care? I'll bend easy. I can do this...I CAN DO THIS.

Well, not really related to the artwork but there has been a little skerrik of info released on Zelda Wii 2, pertaining to Wii motion plus.
Miyamoto has said that the new Zelda game will use Wii motion plus and atm is being developed for the compulsury addition of Wii motion plus.

GoNintendo says:

Quote from: GoNintendo
Miyamoto's idea is.. to give the player a more impacting experience and really feel Link's journey through the game, by creating memories of the characters you meet and things you face along the way. These would be things that would differ for each person as they play their own way through, so everyone would have unique memories. How you approach a dungeon, solve a puzzle, or complete a side quest all add to this.

Right now, for each game they are mainly iterating on variations of controls, level designs, etc.. so he wants to see the series evolve in more meaningful ways.
This would be cool. Why haven't we heard about this in any other articles regarding the roundtable (unless I missed it)?

Because i don't think it is a concrete idea for a game design, but rather Miyamoto's creed when he designs games and stuff.  from that quote i doubt we will see any such multi pathway idea or any evidence of that quote in the next Zelda game...

Unless there was an oversight by the artist, that isn't the Link from OoT or MM, because the Link in the art appears to be right-handed, whereas Link in OoT/MM is clearly left handed.  That, or the art piece has been mirrored.

Or it could be a retcon.

We don't even know if they've determined a placement in the timeline for it yet. They've said multiple times that it's not the first thing they think about when designing a game.

I must've missed those interviews

Personally, I think you should be able to choose your sword-hand.

Okay, maybe it was just one interview. At 5:55.

Personally, I think you should be able to choose your sword-hand.
It seems like you would have to, if it's MotionPlus-only. It wouldn't make sense otherwise.

I agree with the "Choose your sword-hand" idea.  It should a cinch for them to program something like that, right?  The default option should be left, though

The theory that this new character transforms into Link's sword is a good one.  I wonder if she might transform into other weapons Link could use?  I'm not referring to his other items, but weapons to replace the usual sword-and-shield like a mace or twin blades--different weapons Link could wield to vary the combat up.  However, Zelda is more than just an action series; I doubt they would focus on something like this.

I thought that she may be used to explore areas Link can't explore, like imagine an area with bars too thinly spaced for Link to escape, Link could toss his sword between the bars, which could transform into the spirit like form and release Link or something like that...

What would be cool would be to have her be an Ico like character but with very high AI, so link doesn't control or  'possess' her (which has been done and is a pain) but she can work things out for herself, defend herself and help Link with certain puzzles.

No, i'm sorry but a very definate no, i think if Nintendo attempted to do that, they would fail miserably for starters and secondly it would be the next step up from Midna, not only would you get told what to do with some incredibly easy to decipher(if you even need to decipher it) but the assistant would then solve the puzzle for you, i don't think Nintendo understands the line between "helping" and "doing it for you"

I see your point, I just think if its another hypno-control character (ala dominion rod or command melody) then that would be rubbish.
