it depends how much work they put into it, but i agree i would be a bit dissapointed by a repeat of that idea, i'm sorta hoping that this whole sword thing means that Link will be swordless for 90% of the game to throw everyone in a loop and he would have to rely on his other weapons...

Ugh.  I hope they don't stoop to that just out of desperation for something new.  I think they can be a little more creative than leaving Link swordless throughout the game.

I see your point, I just think if its another hypno-control character (ala dominion rod or command melody) then that would be rubbish.

I don't know...that idea seems similar to what's happening with Spirit Tracks...

But say this character is some sort of Master Sword representation, doesn't the character's head look more like the sword's point than the sword's hilt?  Just random speculation.

I don't think having Link Swordless would be a desperate idea, i'm not sure if it would be a good idea, but i think it would be ballsy and risk taking...something i want to see in zelda.
That said, Link without a sword does take away some of his awesomeness...

Problem is it wouldn't be very believable, I mean if Link were swordless surely it wouldn't be too hard for him to get his hands on a new sword even if it were just a regular non-master sword weapon. There would be no need for him to walk around without a sword.. it would just feel a bit contrived... It's not that I'm against the game mechanic as such, which could be cool and fresh, I just don't know how they could fit it into a believable immersive ingame-world without it seeming like a random gimmick.

it would just feel a bit contrived
Contrived like turning into a wolf, or being banned from "dangerous" parts of the watery overworld in earlier portions of the game because the boat tells you so? Logic doesn't apply in Zelda. If they want to make Link swordless, they'll do it.

I think it could work. There's much, much more to Zelda than swordplay. I'd be open to the idea.

How did you get that out of "he's not holding a sword"? Besides, the controlling another character idea is awesome; it just needs to be implemented better the next time it shows up. (Spirit Tracks is a step in the right direction but it's not "there" yet).

I don't really have to watch Nintendo's attempts to get hypno control characters right for the next 3 games, but i have to say that a character that deprives link of his sword could be interesting if you have to safeguard link whilst moving around...

Well we were discussing the sword/character being controllable thus I was thinking about how other non-link characters have been made playable in previous Zelda games.

If it was a tag team dominion rod type character, seeing a few cooperative boss battles would be cool...I hope it isn't though because they are doing the same thing with ST...

I better get to use a sword in this game, god damnit, or Nintendo can forget about me purchasing this game. It's not Zelda without a sword. What do you think is the weapon that comes to mind in when someone thinks Zelda? A SWORD! Even in that trash Zelda 2, you could use a sword! That's one of the things it got actually got right! What's next, are they going to make it Grand Theft Auto: Hyrule City, where Link has to get back his eight prostitutes from Ganondorf Dragmire, the Great Pimp of Evil?! Jesus, this game will be like E.T. on Atari or Superman 64 all over again If I don't get a sword! I'm already pissed ST has a train in it. This'll be even worse! Oh well, I'll always have OoT, ALTTP, and TP[my three favorite Zelda's, btw]If they screw up with this game, at least...

FLUDD?

I think it would be neat if they took the sword out, but still had a few portions of swordplay via a Command Melody-controlled character.

Perhaps link's sword would become a ranged weapon? being able to throw it up on ledges and using it to fight although the usefulness of this i can't see...other then link wouldn't be able to be hurt, perhaps you would have to defend link whilst he stood on a switch etc.

I've been thinking, what if it isn't only the mastersword that has a sentient form. What if each weapon has some kind of fairy/god form which Link must find/rescue/defeat before being able to harness their abilities?

hmmm...perhaps magic would make a big comeback in Zelda??  Perhaps it is not that we won't see the master sword but we will see several magical holy weapons? perhaps holy artifacts to defeat a great evil? you could work it well into a boss battle too...hmmm

I'm thinking Fairy of Winds (in TP's Gale Boomerang), and the part where the Fairy Queen in TWW kinda made the fire and ice arrows appear from her fairy magic.
Then consider the Fairy Queen in ALttP, who made your old shield, sword, boomerang and bow&arrows into a better version.  And FSA, where pretty much every item got upgraded by the upgrade fairy.

I think there's enough evidence to support the theory that all items in the Zelda universe could be either improved or house the power of (great) fairies.

I'm very curious about the Master Sword's origin.  I hope it won't be too predictable and will have much epicness to it.

Quote from: JC
Also, why would we even NEED another incarnation or form of the Master Sword? We've worked fine with it IN ITS ORIGINAL FORM in Alttp, OoT, TWW, and TP. What's the point of making the Master Sword into a woman/fairy/thing? "Oh, hey, Link, I'm a pivotal plot point that'll be accompanying you on your journey and just so I can be useful since the Zelda series just can't stop following the SIDEKICK FORMULA, I'm going to change into the Master Sword whenever you need it."

That's probably exactly what it'll be, though.  And probably only in the second part of the game.  I like the idea, since then when you play the other games again you can get all nostalgic and be like aww, thank you Fairy Queen for making my Master Sword so powerful.

I like sidekicks.  Like Ezlo.  He always had some random, pointless stuff to say, if you decided to click on his button.  Otherwise he didn't invade too much.  It's good to have someone who doesn't care too much, like Linebeck.

Hey, there's no new members or new topics, I'm just trying to respark some discussions.
