Lets face it, our little blue dude has NOT been doing so hot since he went 3D. So SEGA resorted to gimmicks, a gun, a wolfman-deal, a sword..... I mean cmon! He's sonic! Shouldn't he just run fast? What I want to know is if you think sonic has any chance of being saved from this 3D nightmare.

I think that Sega is trying too hard to make "good" Sonic games. Maybe Sonic is one of those games that couldn't convert to 3D. I have to agree with you, sonic should just run fast. Personally I enjoyed Sonic Adventure 2: Battle mainly because of Chao World but it was still alright. But the newer games for Sonic haven't quite beat that yet.

I liked Sonic Unleashed, Sonic and the Knight and Rush adventure. So I'd say there are worst franchiese out there.

I also enjoyed the sonic adventure games, but after sonic heroes, they lost my interest. They just aren't worth the money.

The Seven Rings was a step in the right direction, but then they seemed to have forgotten about that.

All wrong. You're all wrong. Sonic is dead. Mario is dead. The non handheld platformer is dead.

Slow down there! I can't tell if you're serious or joking. First of all, I beleive SMG was a great platformer, secondly, if they kept the daytime structure from unleashed, and expanded upon it, they'd have one great game!

The problem is HD. You can't have a fast Sonic game without people bitching about it not being High Definition. Make a 3D sidescroller in normal definition but with great aliasing and I'm happy.

Its real simple.
Just make a Sonic game.
No extra characters (Tails is an exception).
Just run straight through stages (no hunting for anything).
And no tie-ins to literature (Arabian Nights my @$$).

You'd think its "that simple" but its really not" it's hard to "Just make a sonic game" because platformers have evolved past what sonic is, Sonic needs to catch up with advancments in gameplay but no one seems to have figured out how to do it yet. And I'm fine with SOME extra characters(Tails, Eggman, Knuckles, Metal sonic and amy for good mesaure) as long as the main game is just being the blue blurr. Sure let me play as Knux when I beat the game, but dont FORCE it on me. Sonic team also needs to learn to design better levels.

I didn't mean simple in terms of making a game. I meant simple in terms of what they should do with it.
I'm all for the advancement in graphics and 3D gameplay and stuff, there's just a lot of extra stuff that they needlessly put in.

See I dont mind the extra stuff because is the 9 years they have been making 3D sonic games, they havent really caught up to the 9 years of advacments in the platforming genre. Sure they tried to update how the "sonic"cportions play in 2K6 but they failed. Then when they 'brought sonic back" in unleashed, all they did was bring him back to how he played in SA2. I sill liked playing unleashed(both speed and werehog segments) but I wanted something more out of sonic. Why are my only combat moves a homming attack that make me lose all my speed, and a "go fast" attack thats, may be a good idea, make enimes have no reason to be there.
Sega has a character whose gimmick is he can do anything at super sonic speed. IT IS SHOULD BE EASY TO COME UP WITH A GOOD COMBAT SYSTEM! Give him a tornado attack! Or Super hast punches and kicks! Give him something!

I'll agree with the Tornado attack thing, doesn't sound so bad.
But the punches and kicks stuff...doesn't seem necessary. It might have worked for him in Brawl, but in an actual Sonic game it would just seem silly.
Though I believe he had some sort of Tornado attack in Sonic Heroes.

All I'm saying is when you're characters main gimmick is that he's super fast(and WAY past cool!) and his main attack slows him down, we have issues

Just so you know, I wasn't joking I really believe that the console platformer is dying and might as well be called dead. Admittedly that does not extend to platformers with weapons, making them more of a shoot em up, such as ratchet and clank. And did anyone play sonic on xbox. I mean that game sucked so much.... Sonic is about speed, and it's hard to do speed in 3D a lot of the time.

Sonic 2006? Oh yeah that was awful, but unleashed was pretty good, so there is still hope. And well I agree that platforming is on the decline in terms of the number of games being made, the quality of the ones being put out have never been better.

That's a little pessimistic. But I don't think the platformer is dead at all...it just needs...a lot of help.
