Lufia II is SO GOOD.  The dungeons are reminiscent of the early 2D Zeldas.  And reminiscent of Golden Sun & Chrono Trigger.  All high in the best of list.

Might be called 'Estepolis' I & II over there, but there's also a Lufia for GBC, GBA and DS...  The DS one is the remake of the 2nd game, the one I'm playing. "Rise of the Sinistrals".  It's a prequel to the first game (which wasn't released in Europe).  But since it's a prequel, I don't mind not being able to play the first game as much.  They should have remade THAT one for the DS.

Lufia (SNES and other platforms, see above): RPG, similar to the Golden Sun games.  It has random monster encounters on an overhead world map, like most RPG's, but in caves and dungeons you see the enemies and it's a bit like in AoL where you only fight them when you land on the same spot.  If you engage an enemy from behind you'll get a sneak attack in (and vice versa).  Dungeons have a lot of puzzles like the early Zelda games, move blocks and carry jars on switches, make bridges, hit a switch with an arrow, use the hookshot to cross a chasm, and find hidden paths to hidden treasure chests.  There's also elemental stuff, forging, and keeping and evolving of monsters that fight for you, *cough* Pokémon.  There's a handful of those which can level up and evolve a couple of times and have unique skills of their own.  There also seem to be a good deal of items that can be equipped together with conventional weapons to combine special types of attacks. And a rage meter: every time you take a hit it goes up, you can use its energy to unlease powerful attacks for specific weapons and accessories.  It seems to combine a great many awesome things from various successful games.  I like the battle system in the caves and dungeons - very Chrono Trigger - and puzzles therein - very Zelda.  There's also randomly generated cave of 30-100 floors (depending on your file) of puzzles and enemies, with some tough unique bosses and unique equipment, kind of master dungeon.  There's a lot to it apparently judging from the various in-depth faqs about it (many unique challenges go along with it and you could spend days in it seeing how it's randomly generated).

I've basically been wanting it for 15 years, lol, but whenever you find it on eBay it's way overpriced.  I was lucky to find a cartridge only, in Dutch.  Yes, they translated it into Dutch!  The rareness!

Are you playing the second game then? It looks like the first was never released in Europe.

Yeah.  Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, the prequel.  But it's just called 'Lufia' in Europe because of the first game never being released here.

I want to go for a bike ride but my bike is locked in a barn across the street.
