A report released today by a marijuana public policy analyst contends that the market value of pot produced in the U.S. exceeds $35 billion — far more than the crop value of such heartland staples as corn, soybeans and hay, which are the top three legal cash crops. Whaddya think? Good/bad/imagine the tax dollars if it was legal?

What better way to celebrate democratic majority than to legalize weed. Though we do need something to get us out of this giant debt we are in.

The funny thing is is how the hell did they get these numbers?
Are there analists who hang out with drug dealers? Do drugdealers give out a monthly financial manifest?

I am for the legalization of marijuana, but not for the financial aspects (although that is a plus), simply because the prohibition of this drug is causing more trouble than it's worth.

marijuana? More trouble? You kidding? Pot heads don't cause trouble. Unless you call eatting all your food and smelling up your couch trouble.

That's what I mean, why create police task forces to control a drug that does no harm to the general populace? I grew up in Vancouver, so I'm biased...

I think if they legalize it in an "In your own home only" kind of thing like they're starting to do with cigarettes, then that'd be no problem at all. But I know I personally don't want to eat dinner at a restaurant and smell pot all over the place. And I'm the type that can put up with cigarette smoke, too.
I just hate that smell. For both.

I agree. If pot becomes legal it should only be allowed in Specialty Bars and at home.

If marijuana was ever legalised, I'd hope that dealing on the streets would still be cracked down upon due to the fact that it would still have its routes in organised crime and wouldn't be 100% pure (even pot is cut sometimes). Also, I'd hope that people who are regular pot smokers and admit it to their doctors would have psychiatric analysis on atleast some regular basis, due to the high correlation between the drug and schizophrenia. Personally due to the higher risk of schizophrenia, I think it should never be legalised, even with its postive effects, drugs can be made out of canabis without having the negative downsides, and I don't think the government should profit off of people losing their minds. I am however perfectly fine with people killing themselves by other means such as tobacco, minus the addiction, it leaves your mind intact, you can always quit, you can't quit a mental illness.

He's right. Who would you rather deal with, someone who is drunk or someone who is high? Oh, yeah, totally someone who is high. I mean, someone on PCP is SO much better than someone who has been drinking.

I think it would be better to legalize use of marijuana but still have it be illegal to buy or sell because there's danger with any stuff on the street.

I think it would be better to legalize use of marijuana but still have it be illegal to buy or sell because there's danger with any stuff on the street. If you did that then it would defeat the purpose. The point is to take it out of the hands of druglords, and a side bonus is the tax revenue.

Oh yeah I kinda missed that, then make it cheap. Well I'm going to pretend you just said that actually the point should be freeing harmless marijuana users from jails so we don't have to pay for their incarceration. And with that, you make a good point. Is marijuana use a victimless crime? Does the government have the authority to protect its citizens from themselves?

Imagine the tax dollars if cigarettes were legal...... oh wait.....
Of course if we switched to a national sales tax in place of income tax not only would drug dealers and hookers be taxed. My old proffesser used to talk about that idea all the time.
