What is Steam?

Steam is Valve’s once hated digital distribution service, now loved by millions. Valve has deals with many publishers such as Ubisoft and id software that put their games on the Steam Store. Many times you will be able to find games and game packs for less on Steam, as there are no packaging costs, and you won’t have to worry about losing a CD key or the CD itself. Steam has become an impulse buyer’s dream, and some people (myself included) will wait for a game to come out on Steam rather than buy it at a store.

Valve has created a service similar to XFire called Steam Community, where friends can chat with each other, groups for games can be created, and profiles can be created.

Whats happening with Steam right now?

Daily and weekend deals. Make sure to check the steam store at 1pm EST for a new deal!

hupla's super list of Steam Games!
Team Fortress 2
NOW IS COWARD KILLING TIME!

Team Fortress Is one of the best multiplayer games offered through steam. With 9 classes, each with diffrent play styles you will be putting a TON of hours into this awesome FPS!(Also part of The Orange Box)

The Half life series
Rise and shine Mr.Freeman
[/i]
If Team Fortress is the best multiplayer games around this is your best single player fix. You take the role of Dr. Gordan Freeman as you fight off the combine invasion (That you caused) and try to unraveal the mystery of "The G-man". Highly acclaimed with multiple entries in the series you will not be dissaapointed with you purchase.
Portal
This was a triumph

You find yourself woken by a strange voice telling you to prepare for your testing. Your job is to youse your Apature Science Portal device and solve several test, but is there more than meets the eye to your supervisor GLaDOS? Portal is one of the most original, fun and funny puzzle games ever made. Its short but sweet, never over staying its welcome.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
You are a very harsh master, master. I like you

Biowares first outing into the Star wars verse was one of there greatest games they ever made. An RPG that takes place long before any lucas film you make the choice to follow the ways of the Jedi or the Sith. With branching dailouge and tons of missions you'll play though this gem several times.

Alien Swarm

A free alien killing co-op game. It free so download it and play with me!

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale
"Capitalism, ho!"

The Sam and Max series
"Hello?  Yes, Commissioner!  Yes?... Yes?... Yes?..  Holy jumping
mother o'God in a side-car with chocolate jimmies and a lobster
 bib!  WE'RE ON OUR WAY!"
THE BEST DAMN POINT AND CLICK GAME SERIES THERE IS! SCREW Zack and Wiki! To hell with Monkey island! There has never been a more humerous and fun series of games ever. HIGHLY reccomended!

Wait, why did people hate Steam at first?

Also, should I get Plants vs. Zombies? I have friends who play it.

Had a very very very limited number of games and it seemed it was just a way for valve to release vapoware and shitty games that were of newgrounds quality. Oh how wrong we were.

Plants Vs. Zombies is super duper fun. Its one of my favorite popcap games.

And Chime is only $1.25 right now so everyone should BUY IT NOW!

It does seem pretty awesome.

I had Alien Swarm on my old laptop, but I never got around to downloading it for my replacement computer. I was really bad at it the one time I played it, but that probably has more to do with having never played a "real" game on a PC.

Steam is pretty great.  Thanks to them, I was able to get Psychonauts and Deus Ex for like  five bucks each.  Also, TF2, Portal, and Half-Life are solid titles.  Even if I suck horribly at TF2.

Portal is fantastic, as with all the other games in Orange Box.  I love Team Fortress 2.  I've not played that in months.  I need to get back into that game.  I played through Half Life 2 and episode 1.  Not the others yet though.  Great games!

Has anyone played Alien Swarm?
here is the official website with game play, trailers, and expansion maps.
