Well, after all the hype and the Wii coming out, and all the air around TP, I was hoping for a Zelda game that would knock me back in awe. It honestly didn't. Now, I love the Legend of Zelda. I have played most of the games in the series, and I believe I am qualified to say (no more than the rest of you) that Twilight Princess was not traditional, nor was it, to me, mildy mature. Aside from about two actually creepy cutscenes, a few boring but well-designed bosses, and the fact that the Triforce was mentioned. TP was a vague world that left out a lot of explinations. For one: How did Ganon escape from the Sacred Realm to invade the Twilight, and then come back again to force the Goddesses to flood Hyrule? Not only does this destroy any shred of sense in the beginning of the WW explination, it leaves us more stumped about the timeline than ever.

Why is TP not traditional? First off, Link wasn't even that important. He was the "hero" and the mystical beast to save people. That's just about it. Nothing told about the Triforce of Courage that appears breifly in a cutscene and on his hand before he gets his Linky clothes. After that... it's just about a little imp forcing him to do the work. Actually, I liked Midna. I liked Navi from OoT, as well. They both contributed something new to the games, which I thought was a great new change. But OoT was justified by this change by the large spirit of the game, which was very Zelda-like. (I, personally, liked MM better, although Alttp is a very close second.) Continuing on with my rant about TP.

Ganon. Not explained. Not much more to say.

Zant... pointless.

Link. Made straight and therefore added a note of stupidity to the usually unknown sexuality, and left almost nothing for the player to make for him or herself.

Zelda. Pointless as well.

Master Sword. Okay, this one pisses me off. The Master Sword, the pinnacle of OoT and WW, is just POINTLESS BEYOND A DOUBT. So it breaks a curse.... uhm... he could have gone to a spirit. They are made of light. The Master Sword is in a temple that looks like it was destroyed. In fact, it was. That wasn't the Temple of Time at all. It was a cheap cop-out of a sword and place trying to please old fans of the series. It annoys me tremendously.

Enemies and Bosses. Easy, with few exceptions. Most of these were hack and slash.

Dungeons. I actually liked the dungeons, aside from the Forest Temple.

Items. I adored them. The Ball and Chain weapon was a great addition and one of my favorite new items to date.

Music. Meh. It was okay, but there was absolutley nothing memorable to me in there. It was just... repeats of old songs we've heard before. With maybe a few more "instruments" in it.

Gameplay. The controls were somewhat easy, although I think the auto-shield was pretty dumb. The R button was utterly pointless except for the shield attack, which was also pointless.

Originality. Pretty much the same Zelda as usual. Nothing really catching to the eye, and the only thing revealed was the Twilight Realm.

Tradition. Very little. I don't even need to point this out. It's utterly obvious how much was left out that would have made the game whole. Not more of the same things, obviously, but for the most part, this was a decently good Zelda rendition.

My overall rating: 8.4
Don't scream at me for the rating. Zelda was good, but there are a lot of things for me that have to be judged before I feel like it is truely worthy of the title "The Legend of Zelda". For me, it only BARELY hit that mark. It had too many of the same things in wrong places, and too many new things where if it had been used as usual, it would have made the game better.

Please post your comments below! I like to hear opinions on Zelda.

So, what do you think about Majora's Mask and Wind Waker? Majora's Mask is one of the  least "Zelda" out there, along with Link's Awakening. I don't care about the characters, or the Master Sword, but the overall experience. The dungeons in TP were superb and overall was a cool, fresh, young, dynamic game. I'll say it's the funniest Zelda to play.

For me:
1. Majora's Mask
2. A Link to the Past
3. Twilight Princess
4. Link's Awakening
5. Ocarina of Time
6. Oracles of Ages/Seasons
7. Four Sword Adventures
8. The Minish Cap

I can put it this way too:
1. Majora's Mask
1. A Link to the Past
1. Twilight Princess
1. Link's Awakening
1. Ocarina of Time
1. Oracles of Ages/Seasons
2. Four Sword Adventures
3. The Minish Cap

Oh, I agree with you, it was fun as hell! But it just wasn't Zelda to me. Majora's Mask? Well, actually, you have a point. Although, it continued a story. It mattered. TP was more of... a filler episode, if you put it in terms of a show. It could have done much better. Although, I think that Wind Waker, while easy and annoying to travel in, was also important and played a good role. I don't think about graphics while playing a game. Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda. It just screamed Zelda to me, while at the same time being something new. I loved it.

They say there's suppossedly some Zelda game coming out for Wii that has been in production for about a year or so. I also look back on the older trailers and take note to a bunch of things that seem to have been cut out. Now, I know things were changed around in the old games, but this one seemed to either completely give everything a makeover, or it cut major parts of the game out. Then, I noticed in past interviews how the suppossed gameplay time seemed to increase alot, saying there would be about 100 hours+ of storyline gameplay at least(I may be wrong, correct me if I am), and 13+ dungeons, and other things that seem to have shrunk down at the last minute. Oh, and that orchestrated piece for TP that was never actually in the game. It just leaves me think...Did they slice the game into two parts because the original was too big? They spent about 4 years or so on this game, and alot more could've been done in that time, it seems. I thought this was an excellent game, probably my personal favorite, but these things just make me suspicious that the next Wii installment will be a sequel to TP(especially considering that incredibly vague cliffhanger ending) that includes a bunch of the stuff we saw cut out from the trailers. I may be completely wrong, maybe they just did decide to completely redo everything, but it's just a thought...

And much food for thought it is!  I'm sure there would be a lot of people in for a sequel.  and it *is* a fact that every Zelda game has had its sequel (not counting TMC)...

I wouldn't mind, but I'm not actually craving for the new Zelda game to be a sequel.  I'd like something... Untwilighted. Different. Yet again...

It's just like that, Majora's Mask was "simply" a rehash of ideas scrapped for OOT, and the result was really awesome. The whatever Zelda coming for Wii may have a lot of scrapped ideas. What about an extensive use of sumo throught the game? More underwater gameplay? More spinner? More dominion rod? Masks? Time? TP is a pretty tight game (as OOT was) and, as reminiscent from that game, TP makes you feel like it was "short", and more things could've been done.

But I think that's what makes you to come again for more

If I'm right, and Nintendo actually did cut the game in half to make it bigger as a whole, then they should refrain from telling us, because the reaction wouldn't be pretty...

Well writer I think you should look at the split timeline and see if you still got so much to complain

Tp isn't a prequel to WW let that be clear. For the rest it's just your view of the game. For me this game is superb and is one of the top 3 zelda games.

1. MM
1. OoT
1. TP

The very best zelda games ^^

To bad A link to the past had to leave the third place :/

Humm about the MS thingy. In fact this explains very much about the timeline, this basicly explain that Alttp takes place after TP in young link's timeline.

If anything, TP was more 'Zelda' than MM ever was. You people complain about the lack of Ganon, Zelda, Triforce whilst MM didn't have ANY of that, yet you guys like it as one of the best.

Link. Made straight and therefore added a note of stupidity to the usually unknown sexuality, and left almost nothing for the player to make for him or herself.
Why would you want him to be gay or bisexual?

Crazy yaoi fans...

I see what you're getting at.
The bosses, I will have to say, were a little too easy.
Zant looked like a vampire Vaati-like thing, and the it turned out he was just a childish Jester.
Ganondorf could have been made a little more in.
Zelda was like a wall, no one really cared for her much.
The music was recycled, which isn't bad, but the recyling of it made it depressing from time to time.
The ending was a copy of Majora's Mask.
The game itself wasn't much original.
It didn't feel like an LoZ game.
And the controls were rather simple next to the special moves.

I myself, being deprived of games for a long time until last Sunday, would still give Twilight Princess a 9.4 or 9.5, but that's just me.
I didn't care for that other stuff much with my playthrough.

This thread is your opinion. So no one should get angry at you.

But yeah...
You can't have Link being Gay.
Just imagine the fight with Gano--.. I can't imagine that... >_>

About the game being cut in half: I don't believe it was cut down, but rather that the delay didn't add much to the game. Chances are they held off any new ideas for the next title, and simply used the time to make changes and develop the Wii version. I'm sure that at one point if the game was twice as large, we would have heard all about it.

As for the review, Sushi, I have a similar opinion. You seem to be mainly disappointed with the timeline confusion, though. I never bothered to follow it, so I'm mostly let down with the points you breezed through. I would say it's the story, (lack of) items, and the overworld design which really hold the game back. I was working on a review of my own a couple weeks ago, which I have yet to finish. It's much, much longer though, and probably a bore to read.

That may be true, but keep in mind who we're dealing with...Nintendo . I don't want to go on and on about any pointless conspiracy theories or whatnot, but it's just a thought on my mind that I would like to see put to rest when the next title is announced...
