Monado: Beginning of the World is an upcoming role-playing video game published by Nintendo [1] and developed by Monolith Soft[2] for the Wii console.
The game was announced during the 2009 E3 Nintendo Press Conference, in which a trailer was shown. The trailer shows a futuristic sword wielding character battling giant robots and creatures. The game will likely be an adventure RPG, as the trailer shows both third-person exploration gameplay and a turn-based battle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lvegNvm6LoThis is an upcoming game for the Wii and I am really looking forward to it. If any of you know me I am a huge fan of just about all of Monolith Softs games. I really enjoyed all the games in the Xenosaga series and I loved absolutely loved the Baten Kaitos games. I am dissapointed that they most likely will not be making a third Baten Kaitos games but this one is showing some promise. I posted a link to the trailer shown at E3 above, hopefully this one will be getting a 2010 US release date.

Yeah, I've been hankering for a good Wii RPG, so far, I can't really name one. The Crystal Bearers seems more an adventure title, so I guess we'll be kept waiting for a while. Hopefully this one turns out good, it'll be interesting to see how much production Nintendo will put into this title...

I noticed this at E3, but we haven't really heard enough about it to tell whether or not it's something to be excited about. I'll be cautiously optimistic about it for the time being, but I hope that we hear more about it soon.

Yeah there really isn't any info about it other than what you see in the trailer. But with Monolith Soft's track record in creating games that I personally love is why I'm so excited about it. In fact I am currently working on beating both of the Baten Kaitos games again right now. They are awesome games and I recommend them to anyone who has never played them before.

Just out of curiosity, have we heard anything about this game since E3? I'm afraid of getting excited only to have it evaporate like Disaster: Day of Crisis or Project H.A.M.M.E.R.

Nope other than the initial trailer shown at E3 nothing has been heard of it at all. I really hope that it doesn't disappear like Disaster because that was a game that I was looking forward to as well. Looking at the trailer it looks like the game is pretty far along and is looking great. Heres all other information I found on it as well as some screen shots that look great. http://wii.ign.com/articles/989/989567p1.html The graphics remind me of a mix between Final Fantasy X and XII. The character models remind me of Final Fantasy XII and the environments remind me of X. I am hoping that at this years E3 there will be a ton of new information on this game as I am really looking forward to a new Wii RPG. Though with Star Ocean 4 and Final Fantasy XIII coming out for the PS3 in a month or 2 I won't have a shortage of RPG goodness.

Name change!
It's now called Xenoblade.
Here's the screenshot that made me need the game. (Edit: Pic got replaced, ignore.)

Wow that's really interesting. I did some research and it has been changed to Xenoblade in Japan but is still title Monado: Beginning of the World in North America. That screen shot is unbelievable. I am wondering now if this will have any relation to the Xenosaga series. The Xenosaga series was initially supposed to be 6 games (consisting of 2 trilogies). They completed the first trilogy on the PS2 I wonder if they are making the second trilogy on the Wii... Only time will tell, but I honestly think that Monado: Beginning of the World sounded cooler. If it is completely unrelated to the Xeno series then I would prefer it to be Monado. But they may also be trying to boost sales by relating it to the Xeno series. All I know is I am really looking forward to new information about this one.

I mean, between Xenogears, Xenosaga and Xenoblade, it's easy to get confuzzled. XD

It sounds like this is the case. That screenshot may actually be promotional art. But it's still awesome.

Xenogears was the best.
This game looks pretty rocking, might be my first wii buy in about 6 months.
Although I see there is no EU release date.
I thought videogame developers had stopped doing that?

I was a huge fan of Xenogears, and even a bigger fan of the story of Xenosaga. The thing that killed the Xenosaga series IMO is the lack of consistency, each game they changed so much (art, battle system, voice actors), that it was almost hard to relate them to one another. The first game was amazing, second was alright, and the third was back on track but it should have stayed like the first which maybe a few elements from the third the entire time.
Either way I am really stoked about this game. I have quite the RPG fix this year it looks like with Star Ocean IV, and Final Fnatasy XIII for the PS3; along with Xenoblade and The Last story for the Wii. This make one happy GamePunk.
All I need is for Chrono Break to be announced and I will be in gaming heaven.

Details! The game apparently takes place entirely on the corpses of two gods (the ones shown in the artwork/screenshot I posted). There's no random battles, and the designer says he's avoiding lengthy cutscenes and level grinding. He also says the game will be 50-60 hours long, which I'll believe when I see it. Still, it sounds exciting! Hopefully we'll see more next week.

So, the latest issue of Famitsu has new artwork and screen. Artwork here and screens here and here. I love the art direction for the game. It's come pretty far from what we saw at E3.
