I don't think Zelda will go any more modern than steam engines, which I think works pretty well.

Zelda Wii looks set to be a game that can be summarised with a variety of two-word soundbites. Joining "structurally different", we now have "player friendly".

Destructoid reports Miyamoto saying that the controls for Zelda Wii will be a much simpler affair than those found in the more recent titles.

Quote from: Miyamoto
For us, it is important to the to optimise gameplay and make the controls easier. We do our best to make the controls player friendly, since Zelda has become complicated.

Has it really? I thought that the Wii Remote had added a layer of user-friendliness already to proceedings. Point, swing, occasionally hold Z to focus on one enemy. It doesn't get much simpler than that does it? Is Miyamoto daring to deny the dreams of many by removing MotionPlus from the occasion and taking us back to NES controls as he did with NSMBW? Can you imagine the uproar? Hurry up E3, we need answers.

Maybe he's thinking of Zelda's previous two outings on DS, which required the use of touch controls and weren't very player friendly to every type of player. :

The whole 'player friendly' thing is always what Nintendo says, they want to make games more "accessible", and they've invented a ton of ways to try to reach that end.  What I think Miyamoto is getting at is that buttons=complexity, they were touting how intuitive and easy the DS Zelda controls were, though I have to admit with the touch controls with the Zelda games came new problems.  In any event, removing Motion Plus is extremely unlikely, considering the game was probably designed with Motion Plus in mind from the start.

Miyamoto creates misunderstanding, causes international incident

...lol, seriously though, it wouldn't hurt to take things back a few games. Perhaps an interesting fusion; 3D Zelda with more 2D implements. ie: a simpler subscreen, the return of automatic items (raft, armor upgrades) rather than equipping things...

I would certainly like to see a return of 2D Zelda, but with the pseudo 3D graphics of the recent pokemon games.
