....they have a twisted alice in wonderland type feel
I myself was going to liken it to Willy Wonka and Chocolate Factory during that "World of Pure Imagination" part. I'll partake in friendly debates with you, Be_yourself! Just remember nothing I say should be taken as malicious or spiteful! I'm also a little worried about that "focus on fun, not story" snippit. The Legend of Zelda lore has always been a huge part of each game's experience for me. To skimp on that would be a huge blow to my experience playing the game. To me, being told a good story is fun. Playing through a good story is even more fun. Perhaps he meant to say "we focused on gameplay first, story second." That would be better to hear because it doesn't make it sound like they're ignoring the story part. If not, we're in trouble. I mean, the game is called The Legend of Zelda. "Legend" would imply an epic story, one would think. This is the type of stuff we do with limited information. We take any little morsel we get, and analyze the hell out of it until speculate it into something awesome or something we despise. We are all fans!

Update from Roundtable.
Link is born above the clouds in a place called Skyloft. the scene showing him jumping down is the depiction of him going down to the Land Ruled by Evil (Hyrule?). Link is is searching for the Skyward Sword AKA the Mastersword. The Skyward Sword will transform into the girl shown in the artwork.
Well, isn't that Interesting.... Is that implying that Im copying that from the post. Because Im not read the roundtable and you'll find out for yourself. @ Everyone I was able to sleep on it and I give nintendo props. Their trying something new. They still have a full 6 months + of development left and hell they might decide to change it again. Gameplay, Graphics, and Everything could change with a snap of a finger. Remember this is in ------>DEVELOPMENT!!<-------- So don't get your Pringles in a crunch and just give it time.

No, that wasn't my implication. I just thought it was neat that someone mentioned a Zelda game taking place in the sky, and lo and behold, that's how the next one starts. Sorry for the ambiguity.

I'm glad the trailer shocked me, it looks to me like this Zelda is covering fresh ground, its not trying to be the biggest or the best, it's trying to be a good game. There will always be a sequal, and if they are willing to break the mold this time they will be willing to break that mold next time. See, I don't think it's fresh at all, sure the visual style is different but it's a throw back to The Wind Waker if it is anything at this point. I know there will one day be a sequel, inevitably but it'll be for new hardware and when it comes out? Who knows! I waited eagerly hoping Nintendo could turn Zelda around and make something completely compelling, both visually and from a game design point of view. While I can't speak for the game itself, the graphics look like bullshit. Miyamoto's quip that it would have been done already if it had Twilight Princess style visuals just pushed me over the edge. The trailer sucked too, I completely agree there. As far as the story goes, I'll pass judgment after I play it, but I agree that Aonuma's "placing emphasis on fun over the story" comment is nothing but alarming.

I apologize for misinterpreting. And I agree that is cool. Just A question did you expect dark and griddy realistic graphics for a game themed with the sky? The style matches the story and Nintendo has always done that. You should probably wait. Like Ive mentioned to so many others It still has 6-8 months to go. Engine I feel hasn't been updated as far as cell shaded textures go. We might see more detailed objects like Mario. So many things could be worked on from now till then.

I wasn't saying it had to be dark and gritty, I was simply expecting something with more atmosphere; and once again, I didn't get the impression that the game would be about the sky at all from that early concept art which I'll keep hearkening back to till Kingdom Come. I'm just not anywhere near as excited as I should be for this game, and that's Nintendo's fault, and frankly, all I've seen across the board is discussion that rationalizes the visual choice, there's no genuine excitement for this game, everyone everywhere is just saying "well let's wait and see how it turns out", which should be unacceptable. I feel like Nintendo's gotten one too many free passes and I just really have to call bullshit on this whole episode. Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.

Just jizzed in my pants. It looks fucking AMAZING! The only thing i didn't like so far was the graphic brightness. It doesn't give it a dark, scary look. Like TP, OOT, and MM. Looks too 'Happy'. Eeeh, you all know how they are with early release trailers. They may change it up. I really hope so.

Skward Sword <----------------- Emphasis on Sky Link Jumping Above the Clouds<---------- Emphasis on Sky I agree about there not being enough emphasis tho. I don't think this is a free pass. YOu cant realy judge the game till youve played and the only one who even has an idea about the gameplay is DSCUBED.

Wait, what? I can't judge what I've seen? Seriously?
Look, I know I'm being harsh, but I'm genuinely disappointed, I was also one of those people disappointed with the direction of The Wind Waker, before the end I came around and gave it a try trying to look beyond the visuals, but I found that the gameplay sucked even worse than the visuals, then I decided it was the worst in the franchise and it's yet to be replaced.
Skyward Sword is a candidate to replace it, of course, but it might replace Majora's Mask as my favorite, at this point I honestly can't say because the game isn't done and I haven't played it, but as it stands, I don't like what I see.

I freaking hate this cell shaded BS.
BUT you'd thought they'd have learned their lesson with presentation.
I hate those graphics. I can't believe they went back to cartoony. How can you take this seriously with adult link?
Graphics - Do not like.
After 365 days of anticipation and excitment, I feel entirely pissed on.
Zelda really does have the worst fanbase ever.

Zelda team tends to make the worst creative decisions while leading their fans around in entirely different directions, three Zelda games have suddenly drastically switched visual styles on the fans, you can only take so much.

As I've explained, we were set up to expect one thing, and had expectations shattered with something I would call sub-par. I don't deny that there are those that will love this style and embrace it, but there are plenty of people, including myself, who have lost a lot of excitement for this game already, simply based on the visual style.

I am rubber you are glue.
I don't insult you for being enthused about the new game, you could at least pay me the same courtesy, or at least try to understand where I'm coming from.

Then say that the first time instead of the crazy end of the series stuff people first said. You can be disappointed in the game because of the art style, but dont dismiss the game entirely. Then hisak wouldn't have to make himself look so silly rushing to the games defense

Jordan this is what I'm getting from you: You saw one piece of concept art. One. And built up your own excitement. Then, not contradicting anything they've ever said, Nintendo shows a gameplay demo that has new twists on old items, and even 1:1 swordplay (something we've wanted for a looong time). Because you built up your hopes around that concept art, you were disappointed despite the nice gameplay.
Am I correct?

You can be disappointed in the game because of the art style, but dont dismiss the game entirely. I've been saying it over and over again, I haven't dismissed the game completely. Please READ my comments, thanks. Am I correct? No, throughly reread my comments, you'll see that Nintendo actually did suggest in various statements that the game would have a more mature direction, with Link being older than ever and the discussion of Nintendo wanting to one up Monster Hunter 3's visuals, so far I don't really think you can even make that kind of comparison reasonably.

I did yesterday jord, the post about how nintendo had "screwed you around" and of course this little number Lastly...Zelda.
*deep breath*
WHAT A LOAD OF FUCKING BULLSHIT! Seriously, not what I wanted, not what I was expecting, and no a pleasant surprise. Taking the Mario Galaxy approach to Zelda is just a BAD IDEA. The visual style looks terrible and even if the game design is great, and that's a serious mystery at that point, it's not the direction Zelda should be going in.
Over all, the biggest disappointment of the show, and possibly a bigger disappointment than the whole of E3 2008, because while it didn't show anything it didn't ruin anything either.
Fucking balls....
*storms off to angry dome*
I also wasn't aiming that directly at you jord, just using you as an example, people need to lay of the hyperbole, or people like Beh and hisak will call you out on it and you'll all lokk dumb
