Mario Tennis Open's release is less than three weeks away. I'm actually undecided right now if I'll be picking up the game, but Tennis has always been my favorite Mario sports game, so I might end up spending the $40.
Unfortunately, this does not feature an RPG mode like past handheld games in the series, but there are several new modes that look interesting, including a rather fantastic-looking mode that pits you against a scrolling map of Super Mario Bros. levels 1-1 and 1-2. This video summarizes the modes pretty well:
There's of course the normal tournament mode, which makes up the bulk of the single-player content. There are four unlockable characters, which can be found in officially released screenshots for the game but which I won't spoil here. As expected, there's also an online mode, which should hopefully see a lot of activity. No word yet if it uses the same Community setup that Mario Kart 7 had, but we'll find out soon. I'd love to get some matches set up here, but I know that we still don't have a lot of 3DS owners here.
You can also dress your Mii in a terrifying Yoshi costume:

Mario Tennis Open is out in North America on May 20, and Europe on May 25. My interest in the game depends a lot on if I'll have people to play it with, so I'd love to hear if anyone is planning on buying it.
