No-one saw it coming. Many had been predicting a Kid Icarus game for the last three years. Many had said it would be perfect for Wii. But many had given up hope.

But then, out of nowhere, Project Sora of all things turns out to be a new Kid  Icarus game. And that new Kid Icarus game will be coming to 3DS. And it’s going to be absolutely, pant-wettingly brilliant! At least, that’s what the trailer tells me.

I for one was screaming at the screen with joy (as well as a heap of disbelief) at this revelation. The words “Sorry to keep you waiting,” will go down in Nintendo history. Cheeky little scamp. Totally worth the wait. It looks very, very impressive and you have to wonder what the 3DS is packing under its shiny hood. A fight on the back of a three-headed dragon? A stadium-based brawl with an enormous, fire-coated, two-headed dog? Why are there death lasers in Ancient Greece? Who cares! It looks good! Even without seeing it in 3-D, this looks like a must-have game.

So, discuss away. Is this the game which will get you buying a 3DS (whether you want the three-dimensional feature or not)? For me, it's a resounding hell yes.

Cool, but don't really care now, because i;m not getting a 3DS unless something insane happens...would've liked to see it on Wii though...

I have no question that this game will be awesome, and it certainly looks like it will be, but I wish I knew a bit more about the gameplay itself. Right now it looks a lot like Sin and Punishment, but I don't know if that's just from what they've shown us or what. However, consider me disappointed if they don't include those infuriating Eggplant Wizards from the first game.

Cool, but don't really care now, because i;m not getting a 3DS unless something insane happens...would've liked to see it on Wii though...
Something insane like a Kid Icarus revival? I can't see why you wouldn't want this system, but to each his own, I suppose.

Look, even if the 3DS was the best console ever to be released i wouldn't get it, its not to do with the quality of the console, or any of its features its more to do with the fact that i don't really like handhelds that much and i already have a laptop, 360 and a Wii, it hurts me not to play PH, ST, scribblenaughts and Kid icarus but its a pain that i will just have to bear...

New interview with Sakurai still makes the game sound an awful lot like Sin & Punishment.

"I wanted the game flow to involve traveling to enemy territory in the air, then fighting bosses on the ground," he said. "The air battles would be done 3D shooter-style and be as simple and exciting as possible, like a roller coaster or some similar ride. It'd be something close to a rail shooter, although you can move Pit around independently. It'd be difficult to make a whole game around that, though, and I didn't think gamers would be happy with it -- that's where the ground battles come in."
One thing that I don't think we have to worry about is this game resembling previous games in the series too much.

I'm delighted, this is the closest thing Nintendo has had to a new "core" IP in a long time, let's hope it does well...I'm only worried that it might suffer a bit from the whole Japanese/American development schism this last generation has brought us.

Loving the campy feel, but I'm seeing a lot of complaints about it around the internet.

Every Sakurai game has identical menus.

The Menus did look very reminiscent of Brawl.

It's the opening stage, so we probably shouldn't get too annoyed by the extremely low difficulty, the handholding, the linearity, shortness...

I like the music.  I hope there'll be more FREE exploration of the lands.

I guess this game will be more fun if you're somewhat of a Kid Icarus fan.  I've never played the original, and I thought Pit was pretty gay in Brawl (well he still is in this game, but whatever).  Probably not something I'll end up buying.

Don't feel like wrecking my 3DS touch screen early on either.  I still hate PH for this reason.

...It's an on-rails shooter (mostly). I believe I heard there were difficulty settings as well, but I could be mistaken.

Hopefully it actually comes out in North America this year. Unlike Mario Kart and 3D Land, the only release window we have is "Holiday 2011," which worries me.

I really hope they won't make the next Zelda game use the stylus a lot, games like this are not very friendly towards the touch screen

But I do wanna see more trailers/ gameplay stuff, this game looks good, but like I said, if you don't care that much for Pit or Kid Icarus, it'll probably be pretty average.

A minute and a half of new airborne footage. Still looks fantastic. Hopefully it actually gets released early in the year instead of being delayed until Q2/summer. ColonSS

New trailer today. Looks campier than ever:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BO7BRGVjbQ" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BO7BRGVjbQ</a>

There's also impressions over at Kotaku and IGN. There's a lot of details about a neat-sounding difficulty system so check them out.

Quote from: Kotaku's impressions
At one point, a villain actually says, "In this economy, you need every job you can get!"

Amazing.

Oh, it's coming out on March 23, if you missed that announcement.

The reviews are coming in. Hot on the heels of ONM handing out an impressive 91%, up comes Famitsu, stepping in with their perfect 40 out of 40. This score puts Uprising among an elite bunch that includes Ocarina of Time, Smash Bros Brawl, Skyward Sword and... Nintendogs...

With a rather-expensive house purchase just around the corner, this may have to wait until my birthday now. Who won't be waiting?

I really want to get this around launch. Just look at this trailer!

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGR8wXl4QTM" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGR8wXl4QTM</a>

Tempura Wizard for Smash Bros.

But because I'm more worried about its future availability, I think Xenoblade will have to come first. Sorry Sakurai.

Well, after a mini-adventure in itself I did decide and manage to get the game on launch day. And it's great. Never have I actually enjoyed sitting through 12 minutes of video walkthroughs, but there was such charm and humour to the presentation it *pun incoming* flew by.

The flying sections are wildly fast-paced. Only cranked the intensity up to five so far on the first chapter, but you do notice the difference with even the gradual increases. The jump from level 4 to 5 was most noticeable with the Chapter 1 "intensity gate", an area sealed until you up your difficulty to that fifth level. Inside was a mahoosive tank, which brought me the closest to death I have been in my few hours with the game.

In-game collectibles are already stacking up. There's a wonderful-looking grid system for achievements which is slowly peeling back layers of what looks like a lovely piece of artwork.

As for the AR cards, I've redeemed 15 orders worth with Club Nintendo. Two packs per order, six cards per pack. That's 30 packs, mathematicians! With ONM giving a pack away with their next issue and the pack that came with the game, I've already set myself up with 192 cards! Surely enough to trade and complete the set, although they did say "hundreds" and I have yet to hear an official number anywhere... (There has to be at least 128, since that's the number on my Violet Palm card.)

Oh, Christ, what have I taken on? There could be more than 400
