I've only played it for a half hour, and it's better than I expected. The guns feel right with the wii pointer, and the nunchuck swings to whack the gaurds feel just right. Still haven't played it with my shiny new classic controller pro, (feels better built than I expected) but I will continue to post my impressions as I soldier on.

I've gotten a good four hours in, so now I can give my impressions. Campaign-wise, this game is like a stealthy version of halo with COD enemies. At least on "Agent," difficulty that's what it felt like. Set-peices and awesome action scenes galore, in the typical Bond fashion. Plenty of optional side objectives for the completionists. And yes, if you loved the facility escape scene you will get just what you payed for.
Multiplayer-wise? Goldeneye is pretty unique. Though the controls make the turn speed slower, it doesn't detract from the experience. It seriously changes up gameplay strategy, but in a good way. It's more about getting the drop on enemies and making sure you light them up before they melee the crap out of you.
Online? Lag-free COD style exp. system. Just as fun as it's HD competitors, if not more.
Story? Professional voice acting, motion capture, and a fantastic music score come together to make this a great play.

I totally bought it too today, can't wait to start playin' tomorrow! :D

Your li'l review above makes me even more excited.   Is it easy to play with just the Wiimote & Nunchuk?  I thought it was weird to give a classic controller bundled with the game, but hey, it's golden so I had to have it

The CC pro is a good setup for those used to the X360 and PS3 shooters, but I think the wiimote-nunchuck setup is the most authentic way to play. Cranking it up to expert difficulty is recommended if you want to get the most out of it. Plus, headshots with the silenced P99 are the most satisfying thing in the world.
More online thoughts, golden gun is the most original and fun online mode I have ever played. You start out in your corner of the map, and run to get to wherever the golden gun is. You get it first...hope you have a fast hand because one shot, one kill. It takes a second to reload though, so if you miss, you're probably out. If you don't get it first...try to find some way to get the drop on the man with the golden gun, because he will show no mercy. Golden gun gives 5 points, first to 40 wins. So intense...I actually won my first GG match, and I'm TERRIBLE at online.
Another great mode is hero. A person on your team is randomly the hero. They're stronger, have more health, and give you a boost when you're near. The other team has a hero too. Things get pretty crazy, and taking down the hero is tough.
More camaign thoughts. The textures and weather/smoke effects are particularly nice. It's got some nice details here and there, like the background blurring as you reload your gun. There are some funky character models here and there, but the game's voice acting and animation continues to impress. Using your smartphone to hack computer terminals and turret controls is fun, but not too easy.
I also figured out today that when using the iron-sights, you can tilt the nunchuck to lean to the side. This is pretty cool, and good for shooting from behind corners and cover.
Splitscreen multiplayer is downright fun, with plenty of classic and new gameplay modifiers. Paintball mode makes a triumphant return, with the paintball sounds to go with it. Melee-only mode is hilariously funny (gorilla hands  .) It's the best when you pair it with knick-knack mode. (tiny people with gorilla hands  )

Yeah, I've been hearing the online mode is actually darn good.  Can't wait to go online with it - I've always somehow felt like missing out on things with the many groups of people playing CS and CoD online.  Hopefully the Wiimote setup will work nicely for me (there's a lot of different buttons & options, hopefully there won't be any awkward 'dammit must reach button' *DEAD* moments) - the whole point of the Wiimote is that you use intuitive aiming.  I like my oldskool joystick just fine, but I haven't really played a genuine FPS on the Wii yet -- since I never started on Resident Evil 4 Wii and didn't get the new CoD or Medal of Honor, although it's supposed to be okay.   Most FPS'es don't take long enough to play through them, so the multiplayer/online mode(s) need to make up for that.  I'm pretty sure they will for GoldenEye Wii.  Assuming it uses Friend Codes, I'll post mine when I get around to playing online, later this week no doubt.

That's because there really hasn't been one. The most prominent first-person shooters on Wii are either ports from older systems or an inferior version of a multiplatform FPS. That's fine for people like me who aren't huge fans of the genre, but I can understand the frustration and why people would be excited for this game.

Hopefully this game sells well and brings more attention from third parties.

Eurocom needs to make more games. They're good.
Black box mode is frakkin' intense. If you're on the "bad," side, you're trying to pick up the black (or rather, orange) box. While you or your teammate is holding the black box, you're downloading data from it.
If you're Mi6, then you're trying to shoot the crap outta the neon box.
First to finish their objective wins.

Oh, and I got to the tank mission. Pretty darn fun.

I just finished the Facility level, they did make it more epic , and with the scene from the movie where Bond hides behind the poisonous gas cart to make his way out.  I like how with the Dam & Facility the start is pretty much the same, but most of the stages are completely new, more exciting locales, lots of ambushes... I dig.

The escape (runway) mission is even more hectic (and obviously longer) than in the original, I haven't found any rocket launchers so I guess you have to hide from the helicopters
There's different hangars and explosive crates and whatnot, lots of resistance.  You even get chased on the motorcycle, and then have to shake the nunchuk & wiimote to dive into the plane, and then again to take control of it, that's just cool.

So far so good, and I see there's a few *completely* new missions as well.  I'm so curious about the Caverns, that was one of my favorite stages of all time.

Edit:  Ooh, i like the night club.  And the part with the shootout in the huge kitchen!

The stage with the frigate ship is also very well done, you start outside the hangar and have to go through several halls before you get to the ship, it's reminiscent of the old version but bigger and better ^^  AAAHHHHHH the ship exploding all over and you having to escape is cool!  Damn helicopter got me that one time.  And the fire!  It burnssssssssss us! XD

There's some plot twists though

Orumov is a more intimidating villian in this version. Out with the goofy stereotypes and in with the serious stereotypes eh? I guess the writer thought he was too good for his original script. It's a lot more connected.
Occasional lag in online...bleh. Nothing game-killing though.

Holy crap plot twists in Severnaya

(click to show/hide)

Damn enemies are hard to spot in the snow, and like chucking grenades that sometimes end up bouncing behind me so the reflex to walk back is NOT healthy. At all.

Anywho, we got digital TV and improved internets, so we have our own Wi-Fi now and I won't have to rely on crappy Wi-Fi USB or stealing other people's Wi-Fi.  It's downstairs, but I always get 2 out of 3 bars so I'm happy.

My Friend code is 296650025866.
I wanted to play online but there were no people getting added to the multiplayer matches, so I guess there weren't many people playing it at the time?  That kinda sucks.  That wouldn't happen with CoD

am i the only one who is not impressed with the game? controls are shit, we bought the gold classic controller pack and i can't believe the controls are so unintuitive. am yet to try it out with the wii remote + nunchuk combination but i can't imagine it will be any better.

storyline is totally different to goldeneye64 and don't get me started on daniel craig as goldeneye bond and some faceless idiot as his sidekick. WHERE IS SEAN BEAN?!

The controls aren't perfect, but then I haven't played a contemporary FPS game in quite a while so I guess there's a learning curve + you have to customize the sensititive and button settings the way it works best for you.  I like all the plot twists.

And yes, all in all it took me an hour to beat the Severnaya (outdoors) mission.  Epic stuff.

I love how you get to play in the bunker AFTER the GoldenEye went off.  Night vision goggles, lots of fires and destruction, it's a hoot.

I LOVE the Archives.  The first stage that has a high resonance factor with both the movie and game.  It looks awesome, and tops the Facility level (of GoldenEye Wii, not the original).

PS: The Stauger UA-1 is my favorite weapon, currently.   40 rounds, fast, and my favorite scope.

The fight with Onatopp was a lot better than I expected a QuickTime event to be. Definitely a learning curve with the pointer. And if you've never played a wii shooter before, I would recommend an alternative.

Why do people care so much about this? I get that people would be upset if they actually remade a GoldenEye movie with Daniel Craig, but a video game? It's not like the "actor" is giving an actual performance anyway.

That's exactly what I was thinking. You couldn't even tell the characters were human in the original. He didn't have voice acting either.

The Train level wasn't very long, it was mostly Depot.

I do have to admit the voice acting is enjoyable -- Natalya's Russian accent is spot on.

Since the story is rearranged a bit, I was afraid there wasn't going to be a Statue Park
(click to show/hide)

And they moved the Cuban Jungle to Africa...  They'd better have kept the Caverns in there, this Solar Plant is pretty generic so far.

EDIT: I'm not happy about the final battle with Trevelyan.  The quick-time stuff is okay, but
(click to show/hide)

Anywho, I beat it.  There had better be another stage or two to unlock, like in the original.  I beat it on Operative (the easiest - without any additional or optional objectives).  Now that I know where to go and where to be careful, I feel safe to tackle the other 3 difficulties, each with more objectives (and enemy damage, of course).  Something tells me the 007 expert difficulty will be impossible, since it doesn't have healing.  You'd have to pretty damn perfect.
