New Name Change Policy

On April 24, 2011, the ability for all members to change their displayed username will be disabled. After that date, members must ask an administrator or a community manager to grant a name change. In addition the folowing rules will be in effect :

During their first six months of having a new username, members are required to clearly display their original username or a well-known alternate username (e.g. Scott Shelby) in either their custom title, personal text, or signature. Alternate usernames which make the member's former identity obvious are exempt from this rule. Members currently using an alternate usernames who have been using it for less than six months have until April 24, 2011 to make these changes, or they will be reverted to their original username.

Name change requests intended to mimic another member's username will not be honored.

Members are encouraged, though not required, to refer to each other by their current usernames.

It's basically the system that was previously used, but it has now been clearly defined.

If you'd like to PM me suggestions for another system I'd gladly listen.

I dont see why people need to display their old name, mods can see usernames so its not like we can hide from you. or is that more supposed to be away to strengthen the community and help new members?

The latter is exactly right. The rule changes were designed to help the new members. Referring to EA as "Mike" or Matteo Fabbro in uno lobbia as "Zim" looks weird to a new member.

That's fine, we can't force you to call other members by their current names. It's just preferable.
