I'll make my point Short And Sweet: I know there has been alot of Hup-up about the notions for a Zelda movie. Well, let's think to the Originality of the Zelda Franchise itself. Hm.. Link is a SILENT PROTAGONIST. HOW COULD HE BE IN A MOVIE IF HE NEVER TALKED? Clearly, he can't. You can't have a Movie's Main Character never talk. It just doesn't work that way, my friend. Maybe in games, but not in movies. Quote from WikiPedia: Creation and conception Link has no spoken dialogue in the game series. Facial expression has only been visible since the series appeared on the Nintendo 64. Miyamoto has said in interviews that his conceptualization of The Legend of Zelda, and of Link, was based on his childhood memories of books, movies, stories and personal experiences. He tried to make people identify with Link and have the opportunity to be heroes like the character. Although at the end of some games Link becomes vastly talented in physical and magical arts, he usually starts off the game as a regular boy. For example, in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, he begins as an orphan, and ends as the legendary "Hero of Time".[3]
I rest my case, have a nice day.

hmm.
I think that there could easily be a silent protagonist in a movie.
The only problem would be getting enough finances to back a decent movie that would impress Zelda fans.

Well think about it. It would be utterly boring watching a Silent person with a sword go through dungeons. Its fun in games because YOU do it, and not watch it become done.. Do you think Nintendo would waste money on a Film that would become stared down upon by critics, and non-critics alike? It would be a waste of money, and give a scratch to the great name of the zelda franchise.

I do see where you're coming from, but I still do not agree.
The dungeon scenes would be made much shorter also probably with dramatic music and much sound effects. In a lot of action movies, there are action scenes when they don't talk, just fighting sounds. Plus, what about Navi? What about the other characters that will talk.
So much could be done to make it interesting.

True, but you have to Understand that most Video game movies end up Unsuccessful. And, Nintendo Of America would be taking a major risk of either cleansing, or burning the hard-earned zelda name. If the movie turned out bad, it would cause many problems in the future for Zelda, and Nintendo. I don't see any reason why they would risk such a hard earned title.

lol. Though, if they did take the risk - It could be possible. So the title doesn't work for this topic.

It would be. That's why they're called adaptations. Film makers change the source material to make better movies and there is no reason why a Zelda movie would involve going to nine dungeons whilst Link doesn't speak a word. Link would probably go to a few temples and the action would probably be similar to Indiana Jones. It is possible to make a movie where the main character doesn't talk. You just need competent film makers and the right concept. However, Zelda just wouldn't work that way as it is an action adventure.

The only Zelda movies that should EVER!!!!! be made are fan films.
Now that the Lord of the Rings films have already raised the bar in fantasy filmmaking to a new level, what are they gonna possiblly do to impress anyone other than the fans of the game who would get all the "in-jokes" and self-references and what have you?
There is simply NO GOOD REASON to make a Zelda film. Anyone who really wants one.. make your own (and please cast me as the Happy Mask Salesman.)

Will do! I think that WAY back in the day when silent films were big out on the scene, a Zelda movie would be more ideal for a movie than it would be at the present time.

yeah true that, although the only reason i think fan made movies should be made is that it distracts them from getting bored and attempting anything serious... also, Lotr's set a bar, but now every fantasy based game wants to get in on and it really takes the uniqueness out of many (eg: TP and oblivion, white marble cities and ruins, huge grass fields etc. etc.)

Zelda movie impossible? I wouldn't say so myself, if you've ever read the mangas you'll get a good idea of how a good Zelda movie could be if done right. Also about the whole "Link never talks" matter: He does and I'll give exemples for you as well, in Zelda 2 at one point where you find a mirror he says "I found a mirror under the table", sure not very exciting but it's dialogue nonetheless. He obviously speaks with unseen dialogue as many asks his name and then get an answer...in TP when Bo asks about the children the screen fades and afterwards Link has told him everything. In Tww you can hear him yell "come on" with full voice acting...also when you get these choices like in Tww where you stop the thief and she asks you why and you get to choose between "I'm an ally of justice" or "Because I like you". There we get even more seen dialogue. And maybe most haven't noticed in Tp but on the third day where Link returns from the ranch and Ilia rushes to his side and speaks to him you can see Link's mouth moving as well if you look closely (you don't get to see what they're saying though). Furthermore the hero's shade in Tp is with a 95% chance of probability the ghost of Ocarina Link...and he has lot's of dialogue doesn't he? Thus the "Link never talks" matter is debunked in my opinion and I'm quite tired of seeing it as an argument for not making a Zelda movie.

There is an old legend: "Since ancient times the gods have fought a great evil to protect their greatest creation: our world. But when a powerful guardian one day was struck down and evil was able to penetrate their defences, the end of the world and the gods seemed to near, the evil was however defeated and sealed away mysteriously like a final blow from the guardian even after death.
This evil was rumored to live on however...but in the world of mortals and dark times in the land of Hyrule were soon to follow. Having lost a hero of legend the gods and the mortals now stand before the mercy of a great evil. But legend has it that the great guardian shall return again...but this time the ancient war among the divine will come to our world as the descisions of one man will decide the fate...of the world"Read my fic here: http://www.thehylia.com/forums/arisen-from-the-ashes-t1074.0.html

You know, all nine dungeons could just be done in a short musical montage.

The "montage song" from Team America springs to mind
