So I'm not really sure where the appropriate place to post this is, so I figured this would be a good enough spot. Here's the deal: a few months back, I was introduced to the game Diplomacy. Basically, it's Risk on steroids, crack, and methamphetamines, and it was a hell of a lot of fun. The tricky part, however, is that in order to really play, you need seven people, plus one extra person to kinda sort out the rules in the event that the other parties aren't particularly familiar with them. Also, playing a full game tends to take some time (read: we went seven consecutive hours without a definitive winner). I got to thinking about the game just the other night, and I realized the the internet could actually be a pretty damned effective way to play the game. And I figured since we've already got such a nice community here, odds are pretty good I could find seven people interested in putting the plan through a test run. The general gist would be that you join this funky forum, get a general handle on how the game is played, and once/if things get off the ground, all you'd have to do is get online to PM me troop orders probably twice a week, and spend a little time in between talking to/strategizing with/making agreements with the other players. So you've got the opportunity to backstab your fellow forumgoers while trying to take over the world. Personally, I think it could be fun (and weren't people complaining way back then that there are never any fun ZHQ contests/gaming events?), but we really would need exactly seven players for this to work out. I'm expecting a shortage will be much more likely than too maybe people wanting to play, but in the case of the latter, it'll have to be a first come, first serve sort of event. So let me know your thoughts.

In I guess, though I thought you were talking about doing it on TMC. That would have been a lot more convenient for me.

Hey you little runts down in the Trendy Game Shop, posting constantly without really saying anything: I played your game once. I know what that's like. I was once your leader. You know the reason posts don't count in the Trendy Game? You're looking at him. Respect your elders.

Well, seeing as we've both got admin powers there, I think that'd cause some problems maybe. I figured a new forum was the way to go for the time being.

I'm a huge RISK fan, but this sounds a little too static for me. But maybe I'm not getting the whole picture.

Why not CA?
Also, can you explain the rules, in this thread? For the lazy members? *silently points to self*

I'm a huge RISK fan, but this sounds a little too static for me. But maybe I'm not getting the whole picture. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by static, but, yes, Diplomacy is a bit slower paced than Risk. It's more of a Risk/Chess sort of hybrid that relies heavily on more social aspects of playing. Why not CA? I don't follow. Also, can you explain the rules, in this thread? For the lazy members? *silently points to self* If rather than typing it out myself, would it be kosher if I just posted to a handy online tutorial thingy?

CA - Constantly Abbrivated, EA's new vacation location, where most of the active Hylia members are.
And is it a long tutorial? I don't want to read long tutorials...

CA - Constantly Abbrivated, EA's new vacation location, where most of the active Hylia members are. Ah. Well in that case, the "why not" is because it helps to helps to have a neutral third party who's familiar with the rules help run the game, and I figured it might be a good idea if that person had mod/admin powers. And is it a long tutorial? I don't want to read long tutorials... It's basically a slide show. It has pictures. You could probably tackle it in a few minutes. Or, alternately, you could get a general idea of how the game is played in even less time by reading the Wikipedia page.

Methinks it would be more fair to randomly select.

Even though I'd love to pick I think random picks would be better.

We need more takers! Yeah, that's pretty much it. We've got two people signed up right now as it is, and that's probably not going to cut it as far as playing an actual game goes. Just off the top of my head, I'ma give this one more week before I decide to shelve his indefinitely. If we get five more people to join the forums, that would be miraculous, and we could actually do a full game. If we get a bit less than that, I suppose we could try things out shorthanded. It wouldn't be a perfectly fair match in all likelihood, but hey, maybe if that works well more people will inclined to join in. So you probably should be signing up then.

So, most people who are getting a summer break are probably on summer break now. I feel bad that I keep on plugging this when there really aren't that many people who care, but some people actually would like this to happen, so I'm still trying for it. So we'll see where things stand sometime in the near future, and see if we have to do a short-handed game, or see if a full game is possible. We'll most definitely have a game, at any rate. As it stands, we've got four people signed up out of a maximum of seven. If you were interested earlier, but were worried about time restraints that are no longer in an issue, now would be a good time to sign up. Or if you weren't interested previously, but now you want to sign up to get me to shut up, now would be a good time to sign up. Or, more likely, if you're a newer person who's just heard of this, now would be a good time to sign up. This is where you want to sign up.

I'll look up on this because Tuesday is my last day of school, I don't go back until the 29th of May to graduate, so I will definitely look this up.

I'm definitely in now that it is summer. Also, since I am a mod on ZHQ, I need to say this upfront. Anyone who betrays an alliance with me will be banned for life from ZHQ and The Hylia.
Kidding, of course.

Anyone who's already signed up on the forums already would do well to check it out again.
And if by some strange chance a new person were to sign up within the next week, that'd be pretty cool too.
