Flash Feature: Zelda Flashes

In this three-part series, I’m going to take you around the world of fan-made flashes to show you some of the best stuff I’ve found. All of these flashes were found on Newgrounds, the biggest flash site on the web, though many of the creators have their own web sites. Often there are links to these individual sites on the flashes themselves, but if you want to know who made the work, you can always check out the “Profile,” or “Site” links on the left side of each page.
(Sorry for the image quality--some got pixelated when I reduced their size to fit the webpage)
Also, as a forewarning, many of these have blood or foul language. So, if you’re shy of that stuff, be warned. Each individual page will have a rating near the top to let you know what level of material is contained within, so if you’re wary of something, take a peek before you click. I’ve spent long enough looking through all of this stuff, I can’t be your personal censor for every single one.
That said, let’s take a peek at some of the best Zelda-themed flash animations I’ve found. Hope you enjoy—some of them have some potential, and others are just downright good.
However, please, for the love of Din, if you’re a freak about everything being just like the games, look elsewhere, because most of this stuff is kind of derivative. Artists draw in their own style, with their own take on the Zelda universe. If you don’t like that, then don’t waste your time. If you’re open-minded, you’ll probably find at least one flash here worth your time. Always bear in mind just how much work goes into these. Now enjoy.

Return of Ganondorf
This one’s a keeper. It’s rather amusing, and has a quality style in its animation. Doesn’t hurt that the voice acting’s pretty good (compared to most flash, at least). I highly recommend this one. One of the best Zelda flashes, to be sure.

Hope’s End
A very interesting and serious fight. The quality may not be as high as other stuff out there, but it is hand drawn, and that makes things hard for some. But you can see the potential, all the same, and believe it or not, this is still better than most garbage that hits the flash neighborhood.

LoZ: Unknown Origins
Part 2
Part 3
This one’s rather unique—it’s got some noticeable flaws in its presentation, but don’t let that stop you from giving it a watch. It has a charm of its own. Highly anime stylized, though—so if that’s a turn off, steer clear. But the characters seem more lifelike than they do in most other flash presentations. Too bad the episodes are so short.
This series has some potential. Maybe they’ll improve in quality as time goes on.
If you’re open-minded, be sure to give it a go.

Survivor: Hyrule
A blatant parody of the Zelda series, this short has better animation than most, and is just plain funny, anyway. Have a watch, you’re bound to snicker at something.
Four Swords Misadventures
This one’s for those of you who are bored. Nothing flashy, nothing too witty, but kind of amusing if you’re bored and have some time to burn. Seriously, there’s not a whole lotta truly impressive Zelda flash out there. Can you tell?

The “Real” Legend of Zelda
Part 2
I like to save the best for last. The most popular Zelda flash series on Newgrounds (and one of the most popular flashes on the whole site), this series is off to a wonderful start, and I can’t wait to see where it goes. It’s got comedy and a cartoony style to match, and will have you chuckling throughout. Plus, Navi is actually cool in this. I know—hard to believe—but true. Out of all of the Zelda flashes, these two are the best ones I’ve seen.
I’ve got to admit, quality Zelda flash animations are few and far in-between, and in order to appreciate many of the better ones, you can’t be a snot about art style and must be open-minded. Remember that these things take a lot longer to make than you might think. Feel free to critique and criticize, but try not to bad-mouth this stuff unless you can do better. And if you can, prove it, because flash is a long and arduous process.
Tomorrow we’ll be paying a visit to Mario flashes—some of the best stuff I’ve found on the net, for sure. Stay tuned. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to check out more Zelda flashes…Check out Newgrounds’ flash collection!

haha, the first video in the list is my top Fav. Legendary Frog does some really good flash videos.
Of course, The Real Legend of Zelda is amazing too, I think the creaters are leaving it at 2, cause they have been out forawhile, yet it plays on EVERYONES feelings about some of the plot twist/characters. Shiek being gay...hitting on link haha.

As well you should be.
Quality Zelda flashes may be hard to find, but there is plenty of good Mario stuff out there, and I can't wait to share it.
One of them continues to touch my heart every time I watch it, it's so well-done and packed with emotion and atmosphere.
"Let's all do the CHICKEN DANCE!"
I love his funky accent.

Return of Ganondorf was by far the funniest. I still EEEE over that little picture Ganny draws Link. And his voice!
I dunno, I saw one of the Real LOZs and didn't find it funny at all. I thought it was pretty lame actually. Maybe it wasn't this part I saw...I'll check it out. Fingers crossed for this one!
