New Zelda in the Works

Alright, now although this is a very slight mention, it is straight from the man himself.

1UP.com did an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto about Wii Fit and towards the end he mentions a little about Zelda.

Here is the part in question:

"I think we'd gotten to a point where video games were something that everyone could no longer enjoy. As a designer, I'm always focusing on what is fun -- ideas that people can enjoy. For me, I'm trying to entertain as many people as I can, creating games that the widest number of people can enjoy.

"Of course, that being said, we do have the existing teams at Nintendo working on the kinds of products we've always made over the years. The Zelda team is forming again to work on new games! But to me, it's about finding these new interactive experiences and bringing them to people."

Although not much more of it pertains to Zelda, you can read the rest of the article here.

Big thanks to King_of_Link for sending this in!

Maybe it's the new game going to be revealed at E3!

I think the only problem in drawing that conslusion is that of course they're working on a Zelda title. I had no doubt in my mind about that. THe question is though: When will it be release?

Did you see how he said new games, as in plural? My guess is they're probably working on a Wii title and maybe a DS title, as well. I have a feeling we'll be seeing something about this at E3, but whether or not that's Nintendo's big uber announcement there is up in the air.

I'd rather not think about it and be surprised if they do announce a new Zelda instead of anticipating a new Zelda announcement and then get disappointed that they didn't mention anything.

Of course, Miyamoto rarely is not being translated. That could be a minor technicality or maybe you're right.

Man, I cannot wait till they finally release the first piece of Legend of Zelda info pertaining to the one that is currently in the works. We all can only pray that it will be mentioned at E3

"The Zelda team is forming again to work on new games! "

^^^That doesn't sound like the next Zelda has been in the works for a while as so many of us have come to believe.

Cool, thanks for the news, Aonuma has said that "they" (i assume he means himself or the Zelda team) have had ideas, since that "new Wii Zelda" thing was leaked in early 2007 but none of them were official.

I hope that Miyamoto's statement "I think we'd gotten to a point where video games were something that everyone could no longer enjoy." means that they will be aiming this next Zelda for a more hardcore audience...

Just because the "Zelda team" is working on new games doesn't mean they are working on Zelda games. For your information: the "Zelda team" Miyamoto mentioned is responsible for Wii Fit. Yes, Wii Fit! And we all know that Wii Fit is, of course, a Zelda title - .... yeah, right. -.-

(If you don't believe me, read "Iwata Asks" for Wii Fit on the Wii homepage)

If by "Zelda team" you mean Nintendo EAD, then yes, it is the same team. However, by calling it the "Zelda team" that probably means that Aonuma, the director of the Zelda series, is there, and he didn't work on Wii Fit or the others.

I am expecting another Zelda for the Wii, but not until like the holiday season of 2009 or 2010. The Wii isn't even halfway through its lifetime yet and a second Zelda would probably be toward the end of its lifespan.

Let me extend on what CoffeeGuy said.

I think you are not understanding him correctly. He said "The Zelda team is forming again to work on new games!" in other words the same team that does Zelda, is forming to do new and DIFFERENT games like he was talking about, like making a new (not Zelda) game. But that's just me, and we don't have to worry, remember when he said that he's "finishing all the games"? well, there is obviously more Zelda to come.
