Awhile back, Mak of The Adventure of Hyrule told me that there were two new Zelda soundtracks out; Mario and Zelda Big Band Live! and Nintendo Sound History Series - Zelda. I was going to purchase them from GameMusic.com until Zethar, who I frequently chatted with, told me he was unimpressed with Big Band. Most of the time, we saw eye to eye, especially on musical issues. Therefore, it took me nearly a year after their initial releases to secure them and now pass them on to you.

Big Band Live! actually didn't disappoint me. Most of the tracks are from The Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time. Of the sixteen tracks, only seven are Zelda related. That was probably the biggest let down, if there was one. The highlight is, of course, the Zelda Theme which is the last track for Zelda music. The Lon Lon Ranch theme and The Wind Waker themes probably are my next favorite tunes.

Nintendo Sound History Series - Zelda is a bit different. It is mostly straight rips from the games. However, for most of the older music, you will think these are different renditions unless you are familiar with the Japanese games. That is because the music is ripped from the Famicom Disk versions of the games, and thus they sound a bit different. However, the final track of Nintendo Sound History Series made it worth the purchase alone. You are treated to a spectacular remix of the original Zelda theme. Additionally, several of the Four Swords Adventures tracks are on this game, making them available officially for the very first time.

While these two albums are around $30 a piece at GameMusic.com, you can find "shady" copies on eBay for a third of the price, and I promise they are as good of quality as any other version. Honestly, I couldn't find anything wrong or to indicate they were bootlegs. They matched the copies I had purchased for the purpose of collection (meaning I will not open them). The seller was based out of California - stay away from those copies from Hong Kong, they are illegal bootlegs for sure. Regardless, I recommend picking up a copy of both if you can afford it.
