The Holiday Season is in full swing now, and the Old Man is in a giving mood. After receiving wonderful gifts from so many people (including the Triforce and the Master Sword in Animal Crossing: Wild World), he's decided to give out a few gifts of his own in this week's edition of his popular column. Just watch out if you're an Ohio State fan.

The Video Game Championship Series (VGCS) ... I'm literally counting down the days until the Fiesta Bowl when my Irish will defeat those Ohio State "Block Eyes" in dominating fashion. Still, while conversing with TSA, he was discussing how pissed he was at ESPN's recent "Best of All Time" series in which USC is taking on the best teams of the last 50 years in college football. They've beaten my '88 Irish, '94 Penn State and of course, the '69 Longhorns. It's a fad to have the best "current" thing be in the "top 10" or "top anything" list at any moment.

Girls + Cosplay = hotness.

So TSA and I wondered what would happen if there was a way to have video games go "head to head" in an "all-time greatest game" contest. Now, we know there are TONS of these every year, but what we meant was a real way to simulate the games going against each other somehow, not merely a fan poll (albeit ESPN's feature is a fan poll vote). Could Halo 2 truly defeat Ocarina of Time in some fantasy matchup? How would they "compete" against each other? Eh, it seems not everything works perfectly when comparing sports and video games. Still, each year it would be extremely cool and interesting if they had a "ranking" system to see which game was the best - the Video Game Championship Series. But good luck figuring out how to determine the rankings (sales, percent of ownership by console base, overall scores from media). They have a hard enough time with the BCS.

Ladies and Gentleman, The Revolution! ... Okay, so maybe not everyone will get my Purple Rain reference. Still, the "rumor" by NGC has sent mild shockwaves through the Zelda community. NGC believes Twilight Princess is being delayed to utilize the Revolution's controller so that when you pop in the game into the Revolution, you have a whole new experience. Yet, NGC insists the game is still coming out for GameCube. Even still, they also claim Twilight Princess will be out later in 2006 than we expect, something fans do not want to hear. With no firm release date officially announced (other than April for those who believe that), fans are getting a bit anxious. Still, with Nintendo WiFi in full swing and nothing for the near future other than Metroid Prime: Hunters, you can probably expect Nintendo to begin focusing on Twilight Princess and Revolution. Reggie even said so.

What's new in Hyrule … Everyone else is celebrating the Holidays along with The Hylia. Pretty much all of the major sites have some sort of Holiday theme or imagery to celebrate. However, I did receive a magical Christmas present from TSA. TSA has had the Master Sword and Triforce in Animal Crossing: Wild World for awhile now. Yet, he got a copy of each and hooked me up with one of each. The Triforce plays the intro jingle to A Link to the Past when the Triforce spins, and the Triforce in the game spins as well! The Master Sword plays the "item fanfare" that everyone knows by heart (the secret chime). I seriously played with both items for an hour.

Putting out an APB for … Roam, the mysterious knight. TSA actually brough him up today and was saying how cool he was. He still has high hopes Roam will make an official appearance in some Zelda game.

Fan who gets to ride Epona to work … MK Omega of Project Hyrule, for giving TSA the Master Sword and Triforce in the first place, enabling him to give me his extras.

Fan who should hide out in the Evil Jar … Third week in a row here, fellas. This has to be some sort of record. GameFAQs morons who now (again) insist Twilight Princess is only for Revolution. This is never going to end, is it?

Letters …

Hey Man,

I've been really pissed off recently about the setbacks in videogame releases. First there was Kingdom Hearts 2, then Twilight Princess...I ask you, why? If they had released them near Christmas, they would have made a butt load of cash! ...Maybe they didn't want to pull an X-Box on us and put out fewer than demand? If that's the case, then I guess I can understand...

Also, I think it is a good thing that America hasn't adapted an English version of the Zelda Manga. They'd probably chop it up like they did the Pokemon manga...(not like we didn't notice the immense breast reduction in the books, anyway...*cough cough*)

Coalar Lee Drake VII

P.S. Keep up the good work!

I subscribe to many theories as to why games are delayed. I never believe for one minute it is solely to make a better product; there is always some political or economic reason for the delay as well. With Twilight Princess, I am beginning to believe it is partly to make the game truly as good as it is being hyped up to be, but I also believe part of it has to do with Nintendo's WiFi service launching for the Holiday. Twilight Princess would have smothered and dwarfed the WiFi's launch. As it stands now, DS is taking on X-Box 360 and PSP by itself without GCN's help. Also, there's not much to look forward to until Revolution now, and next year is Zelda's 20th Anniversary. And as NGC speculated, there is the possibility Nintendo is toying with Revolution bonuses or features. As for the Zelda manga, I still would like an official English version. Just to compare that to the work of fans.

Dear Old man.

In the Wind Waker After you finish the Mila's bottle side quest, What happens to Mila after that? I know she starts working at Zura shop during the day. (or whatever his name is). But she now says that there is a different island she works on at night. What is that island since I have not found it myself. I have been wondering about that for a long time, and would really like to know if you have the answer old man?

.Hero_Of_Time.

Hmm, good question. All I know is that she is near the Potion Shop at night, but that is all. Perhaps it is just another dead end mystery. I did try searching for the actual answer, but sadly this old man couldn't find it. Chalk another one up to the great mysteries of the Zelda franchise.

Closing Thoughts … I really hope there isn't another delay of Twilight Princess. It really seems like fans are on edge with the lack of official news and all this speculation and rumors circling about the Internet. It seems if Nintendo would just come forth and give us a more specific release date or time frame than "after March 31st," fans might relax a bit more. Still, E3 is only five months away now, and GDC is three month's away. Wasn't it only this time last year we were all pissed about a lousy three next screen shots after months of no info since E3?

Did you know … Zelda Game and Watch is about as rare as Zelda's Adventure, making it an expensive find for any Zelda fan. What's worse is that mostly British people own them somehow. Still, there is a cheaper solution and one that helps out those wishing to obtain screen shots and videos of the gameplay! Game and Watch Galley 4, for the GameBoy Advance, has the Zelda Game and Watch unlockable should you accomplish certain tasks in the game. The Hylia will have media on it later in 2006.

Want to drop the Old Man a line... then go ahead and e-mail him.
