Home | Community | The Old Man Retires

You may have noticed that the Old Man has been rather inactive over the past few weeks. If you didn't already know, our version of the Old Man is written by our staff member James, who currently is in his final year of his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Texas in Austin. He's been extremely busy with the career center and finishing up the semester, and thus has asked me to officially retire the section on his behalf. Thus, from this day on, the Old Man column will be discontinued.

You may also be wondering, if you are an Nsider, what the deal is with the Old Man column there. Ever since the floated topics were merged into a hub, traffic to all of them has been cut down. I'm debating whether to have Andy pull the thread from the hub, or changing it to a monthly installment. More than likely, I will just ask Andy to retire it since I feel it is dragging.

I would like to take this time to thank people for their questions over the past year from the column, which debuted on ZHQ2.com early last year. I would also like to thank the influence for the column, Pat Forde of ESPN.com and his column "The Forde Yard Dash" which can be found in regular weekly installments during the college football season. Lastly, I would like to thank James for his year of work on the site, and for having to deal with some nasty e-mails meant for me (some people thought the Old Man e-mail was mine for some reason).

I think the mailbag idea was a great novelty of the internet community in the days before the popularization of message boards. Now, most feedback occurs on forums, and it usually is far more in depth than anything done via e-mail. I still appreciate your comments and concerns, so you can always continue to e-mail me. So, goodbye Old Man. Rest now in your dark cave.
