Zelda: Camp Hyrule

Well, Camp Hyrule has finally come to an end. I have to say this was one of the most "chaotic" Camp Hyrules in recent memory, with everything seemingly going wrong - from registration, to trying to log-in on Day 1, to the mysterious "loop" bug that forced you to close down all your browser windwos and log back in, to the two-hour delay of the End of Camp Ceremony. Still, as always, there was much fun to be had by all.

Day 4 saw my cabin slip even further into last place, and at this point I knew it was hopeless to really try to win the cabin competition, so I decided to call it quits and focus on having fun. I noticed Mr. Pickle's Crib made an appearance on the map, as well as this huge black hole. The game for the day was a flash one where you had to keep parts of camp from being sucked into a black hole.

The Nintendo Power chat was interesting - I was the first to get in my question, but I was skipped over because it was either too speculative or because I already had my questions asked in two previous chats,, and the NOAs didn't want to play favorites. Either way, no worries, it wasn't that big of a question. The Charles Martinet chat was fun, though I had already spoken with him before at Comic-Con. I just asked if he'd like Mario to have more lines, and he basically said it was up to Shigeru Miyamoto.

Today brought more turmoil. Apparently the camp disaster was a "time hole" that sent everyone back in time to the year 1998, which brought on lots of funny jokes and good memories. However, it was more of a fun treat than a disaster. The real disaster was getting into the end of camp ceremonies, which seemed fine until the NOAs failed to get in twice. Then after flusing Camp Hyrule a third time, the volume bug struck, and I barely made it into the final chat.

4SwordsLink won the Lost Woods Trivia Challenge, defeating Sonic12 3 - 2. I ended up winning the Skull Kid Award for spending the most time in the Lost Woods, though I felt that was a little unfair since I was hosting trivia there. Cabin 9 won the thing, and some guy named The_Lost_Ear won the Wii. Internet_Bound20, my friend, won the coveted Triforce Award, which was awesome.

My only suggestion for next year, after the last four years being open registration, is for the NOAs to consider moving the event back to Nintendo Power subscriber-only. That would cut down on the horrendous login bugs, and also make the chats more manageable. But I doubt this will happen anytime soon. See you all next year at Camp Hyrule 2007.
