Zelda: Camp Hyrule 2006

This year's Camp Hyrule finally has a set date, and information about registration should be coming out next month. If you've never been to Camp Hyrule before, or never heard of it, this is the perfect time to get aquainted with one of the coolest online events centered around Zelda and other Nintendo franchises. I am sure that Twilight Princess and Phantom Hourglass will have a big presence this year, as will the Nintendo Wii. Last year, Twilight Princess was the dominant game featured, but the event was overshadowed by the delay announcement. Perhaps this year will feature a better tune?

First, thank you to Kattixie for compiling all this information together. I had written a guide - but it is much more technicaly and not very general. I'll repost it as we get closer to CH 2K6. Also, if you're looking for a fun Zelda event, each year, for the past three years now, I've hosted The Lost Woods Trivia Challenge - an all Zelda trivia chat. It is not meant to be taken as a serious competition - it's for fun and because of the immense popularity of it, the chats are jam packed and usually are quite chaotic. But do not fret...perhaps maybe this year we can use the Colosseum for the events...but probably not.

What is Camp Hyrule?

Camp Hyrule is a virtual summer camp hosted by Nintendo of America every August. It's not an actual camp that you leave your home to attend. Instead, you access it from your computer via the net, just like accessing the Nintendo forums. Camp Hyrule is designed to look and function like a realistic camp with a fun Nintendo twist.

What can I do there?

Traditional Camp Hyrule activities and events are famous. To really experience it, just plan on signing up and checking it out yourself. In the past, campers have had the opportunity to:

- Explore the camp through a map.
- Be assigned to a cabin with NOA camp counselors.
- Compete with other cabins by earning points through daily activities and challenges.
- Play exclusive Camp Hyrule games (some are camp-based, others are Nintendo-based).
- Participate in chats and message boards with other campers and NOA camp counselors.
- Chat with special guests.
- Vote fellow campers for end-of-camp awards.

How old is Camp Hyrule?

The first Camp Hyrule took place in August 1995. Camp Hyrule 2006 will be the twelfth Camp Hyrule! You might run into a few campers who have attended camp every single year.

How long does Camp Hyrule last and when does it take place?

Camp lasts about a week (Monday through Friday) and takes place in August. CH2K6 will run from August 14 to August 18. Keep an eye on the official Camp Hyrule website and the Nintendo Forums' Bulletin Board for future announcements.

What do I need to do to attend Camp Hyrule?

You'll need to register for the event and be available in August when Camp Hyrule is happening (August 14 to August 18). If school starts for you during that time, you can still participate in the late afternoon. You don't have to be at Camp Hyrule all day or all week to participate in at least some of the events. You'll receive more details about age and registration requirements when you sign up.

When and where can I register?

Registration takes place in late July or early August. It will open at the official Camp Hyrule website. The 2006 registration dates have not yet been announced, but you can visit the official site regularly to check for updates. Registration usually opens between the early morning and afternoon of the first registration day. Long ago, registration was a brutal process with only 1,000 or 2,000 people allowed to register. Registration in recent years has been unlimited.
