I pre-ordered my copy of
USAopoly's Nintendo Collector's Edition of "Monopoly" as
soon as you could, though ironically I would be beaten out by ThePrincessZelda
in this race to get a Zelda product first. At this past weekend's
San Diego Comic-Con International, she got her hands on an elusive
early copy of the new Nintendo Monopoly. But this is one version you
can' t get from the stores.
I believe if you ordered online,
you should have gotte your copy if it was not back-ordered by now.
Mine arrived Saturday, and it was shipped Thursday. ThePrincessZelda
got her copy Friday morning, but I had no way to cover the product
until now when I had some time with it. As to what makes her version
superior to mine - it is autographed and personalized to her from
the legendary Charles Martinet, who gave her a special birthday message.
Yes, that's Charles Martinet's signature.
The game itself is no different
than your standard monopoly. As you can see in our media gallery,
which has a shot of every space on the board, Mario and Luigi take
top honors, while Link, Zelda and Ganondorf follow close behind. The
money is currency with Mario's face (I didn't bother to open anything
of either of our copies - they're collector's items, after all) as
far as I can tell. The tokens are really small, but they are identical
to what we saw on the USAopoly site.
Zelda for only $300, huh?
The background of the board
and the cardboard holder in the box are composed of screenshots of
various Nintendo titles. I only looked quickly, but I saw A Link to
the Past and The Adventure of Link on there. Seriously, it's a really
great collector's item, though the 35+ price tag on it is a bit steep
(it costs more than a Nintendo DS game).
It is currently on back-order
at USAopoly.com, and Nintendo reps at Comic-Con said it would be in
stores next month (August 2006). So if you want one, better get one
fast - they are limited editions.
