Over the past week, Comic-Con
International has been updating its four-day program scheduling and
floor plans. Today we checked their updated floor plans, and apparently
only Pokemon and Nintendo DS will be present at this year's Comic-Con,
there will - as of now - be no Nintendo Wii or Twilight Princess.
We're still waiting to hear back from the general events manager,
though.
Nintendo of America, Inc did
give us a statement on Friday that I just now read through since I've
been busy transisting between jobs, and it stated Nintendo Wii and
Twilight Princess for Wii were not scheduled to appear at Comic-Con
International, and there were no plans to further showcase the hardware
or software to the public until September 2006. This means PAX, the
other big chance for Wii to show up, might not be getting Wii or Twilight
Princess, either (they recently announced Nintendo would set up shop
there).
It seems Nintendo is pushing
the Nintendo DS as much as it can before September, when most of Wii's
last remaining details will be finalized. So although there may be
no Twilight Princess at Comic-Con, Phantom Hourglass may still be
at the show. Again, our contact at NOA said that the DS lineup for
Comic-Con was still be finalized, but it would be focusing on the
most popular titles already out now, as well as titles coming out
later this year.
This comes as a bit of a dissapointment
to many, seeing as Comic-Con is open to the general public, and last
year Nintendo showed off Twilight Princess at the event, albeit via
only two kiosks. This isn't a final nail in the coffin, as nothing
is ever final till you show up to the event, but it seems like the
chances of Wii or Twilight Princess showing up at Comic-Con International
are next to none.
We'll still be at Comic-Con
International to cover the event as there are tons of big name events
going on, including a lot of gaming lectures given by industry professionals.
There's also the Cosplay stuff.
